£16 m spunked on two larkers- both slightly overpriced.
Where is this money coming from?
Have we got some big sponsor yet?
Have we sold out all the season tickets (30% increase in price) yet?
If not, we must assume that the current owners are using their money.....which they will loan to the club and which is then owed back to the Allam family.
There is no way that this economic strategy can continue- it depends entirely on one man's 'largesse' and there will come a time soon when he quits/dies and his family/ Allamhouse Ltd want the money back. The sum owed must be approaching £100 m now- who is going to pay that back?
Some future buyer of the club?
These levels of expenditure and the wages these players command cannot be covered by the Sky money and sponsors money, nor by gate receipts. Only by unsustainable personal loans to the club.
I can still remember being stood outside BP in 82 (night game v Hxtfc) with the begging buckets when the Receiver had been called in, and we all remember Cardiff 99 - 'the last game ever at BP'.
We've been there before. Are we going there again?
I can sense another David Conn article being written as we speak.
