£16 m spunked on two larkers- both slightly overpriced. Where is this money coming from? Have we got some big sponsor yet? Have we sold out all the season tickets (30% increase in price) yet? If not, we must assume that the current owners are using their money.....which they will loan to the club and which is then owed back to the Allam family. There is no way that this economic strategy can continue- it depends entirely on one man's 'largesse' and there will come a time soon when he quits/dies and his family/ Allamhouse Ltd want the money back. The sum owed must be approaching £100 m now- who is going to pay that back? Some future buyer of the club? These levels of expenditure and the wages these players command cannot be covered by the Sky money and sponsors money, nor by gate receipts. Only by unsustainable personal loans to the club. I can still remember being stood outside BP in 82 (night game v Hxtfc) with the begging buckets when the Receiver had been called in, and we all remember Cardiff 99 - 'the last game ever at BP'. We've been there before. Are we going there again? I can sense another David Conn article being written as we speak.
Are you being serious blampers? I think you're joking but I'm slightly sensing a serious tone to that post.
Suppose the sums seem scary to us as we still getting head around the last 2 seasons and whats required to be a mid table prem team..go with the flow and enjoy the ride i say!... i remember the cardiff game..remember thinking id never see the day when we sign a midfielder who still only at 24 believes himself good enough for England for EIGHT!! million
So you'd rather us spend nothing and get relegated again? Money needs to be spent before money is made. The money we're spending is peanuts if it guarantees another season in the prem
Nah u right,.. fook it!....lets just give up trying and play down in the lower echelons of div1 football...its much more safer with virtually no risk down there.
Been here seen it and got the t shirt. You can't please some people. Are we not bored of this argument by now? Either way you frame it. Serious or not.
With regard to Snodgrass/Livermore, if we’ve over paid, then it’s not been by that much. If they help us stay up, then they pay for themselves. They are both quality players who are both yet to hit their prime. We have to accept we’ll sometimes have to pay more to land players, otherwise lose out. It might be a poor comparison, but I’d rather spend 8m on Snodgrass than say the same on a combo of players of the ilk of Olifinjana, Hunt, Ghilas et al. I must admit I’m a bit in the Ian Darke when it comes to the finances. But if we made small profit last year and have got some players off the wage bill; then I’d would have thought we’d have a chance of being sustainable whilst signing these players. We must have spent around 20 odd million last year too.
Never thought I'd see the day when I was worried about us spending too much. 'Cheque book out' went the song. Cheque book in ?
There is at he very least £60m money guaranteed to hit our bank account each season in the premier league. For us, that turns into £20m for fees and £40m wage bill. All quite affordable.
Agree completely. AA charging 5% on the debt means that relegation would leave us paying all the championship tv money out for nothing, still with approaching £100M debt. We all know it cannot go on for ever, one day the music stops. When I think of all the priçe hikes I remember how much more fun it often was lower down the pile. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed so many great trips but sooner or later we need hard headed reality.
Stop been a drama queen we have paid reasonable prices for decent players with resale value. No doubt there will be relegation clauses for pay drops and minimum transfer fees. Worse case we get relegated then McGregor, Huddlestone, davis, Livermore, long, jelavic and snodgrass would all be wanted by premiership teams and command a decent fee to off set our original pirchase price/wages Relax, enjoy next season (and hopefully many more) with quality players competing in the premier league
We can't keep 'breaking the bank' every year. Unless of course you are Sheikh Mansour or Roman Abramovich. I'd be happy to see us battle along with a modest budget rather than a crazy Hollywood one. We are flirting with disaster.
After the fa's name change rejection AA was quoted as saying " I will run the club to the benefit of the shareholders" well I say " keep up the good work "
