http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11695_7004233,00.html Sky Sports sources understand that Sunderland are set to seal a deal for Birmingham's Craig Gardner. The Blues have already conceded a number of their players would be leaving and midfield ace Gardner has been attracting a great deal of interest. Closely linked to both the North East's Premier League clubs, Sunderland have stepped up their interest and look set to land his signature. The Black Cats are understood to have lodged a bid in excess of £5million which Birmingham have accepted. Now the 24-year-old looks set to leave his home-town club, just 18-months after arriving from Aston Villa. Despite Birmingham's relegation last year, Gardner was hugely impressive last term scoring 11 goals from midfield i think he will be a cany signing
Goal scoring midfielders are a must this coming season, because I just can't see us signing another 20 goals per season forward. 11 goals from midfield is impressive when you take into account that it was Birmingham he was playing for. £5m? Bargain!
How refrehing, a thread on football, a player coming in and a positive one, I was begining to lose the will to live and yes, I know I'm a main culprit. looks like the midfield is slowly taking shape and if we get Gibbson that just about sorts out the centre and right hand side, just a left winger now then its keeper and midfield done, defence and strikers to come.
im really excited about next season bruce seems to be going about his business very well indeed! if we get gardner in thats 2 very decent prem players a highly thought of goalkeeper and a promising young forward in, and all for 5/6 million!! very happy with that..

I just really hope if we do get Gardner, we don't get Gibson, as they are very, very similar players. We will also have Larsson as a long range shooting specialist so do we really need 3?
That's the best part off it, 4 players for the total off £7 million. Two we know are good, and 2 we all want to be good. Just have to wait and see when this new goalkeeper can start playing, and hope he isn't another who keeps getting injured. But so far so good, good scouting by Bruce and co.
Ditto what Dorset said, we can't rely on Gyan's goals, we need more contribution from the mid-fielders. Looks like all that might change this season with Gardner and Larsson contributing from dead balls etc. Two quality signings IMO and at less than a third of what we got for Jordan. Bargain.
I just worry that if we get too many long distance, goal scoring midfielders, then we risk aimlessly taking punts from long range, and not passing the ball into a better goal scoring position. Which is why I would quite like us to get Vaughan, playmaker type figure who can pick a pass.
i know were your coming from but if you dont shoot you dont score!! we will still be a quick and passing side but with an eye for goal! (i hope)
Matty we need 2 players minimum for every position. Players like Gardner, Gibson, Larsson are all great squad builders bit also all players with PL experience (Gardner and Larsson especially). To have signed 2 for 5m is a major coup (imo)
Taken from the article you put on. Tottenham ■Spurs love to have a ping from range… Tottenham Hotspur netted 15 goals from outside the box this season in the league; four more than any other side (including set pieces) When you look at Steeds 44 shots, at least these lads like to have a shot, and as Spurs show it pays off quite a few times. May see some cracking goals if they are given the chance.
as an outsider i whould happily take all but dong won though he is great of fifa and you are looking at vaughen and wickham and nzogbia
£2m for Dong Won is **** all in todays market Wigan. Yes, he's a gamble that SB is bringing to the club purely for his potential. If it works out and the guy hits the ground running, we will be quids in. If not, he'll be sold for what it cost to get him in the first place, a win, win situation in my eyes.
