  1. Agree mate and I'm sure a young Gordon Armstrong made his debut too? I quite liked Burnley boy Adamson but hated the flummery spewing waffle of one Tom Cowie..

I think in the eighties we were stuffed 8-0 or 8-1 by Watford, think it was in the days of Luther Blisset (spelling)?
Seem to remember listen to it on the radio, whilst having a kick about with mates, and getting nothing but p**s take.

As I've said in previous threads, I witnessed the 8 - 0 at West Ham back in 68. I'm sure that there was at least one other poster there, too.

Being a Southern lad, normally speaking I would have been at Watford - it was 8 - 0 again, 1983 I think. However, I had a prearranged family commitment and had to go to Southampton that day. Fortunate, but I was mug enough to wear a Sunderland sweatshirt, and I got a lot of points and sniggers when I stopped off in a pub on the way home.

The thought of having been present for both of those 8 nils give me chills up the spine - I've always thought I'm a Jonah, but I think I'd have had to top meself with that scenario.

I was 12 years old and also standing in the Roker End. The West Ham game was one of the hottest days that I have ever watched a home game.

You are right about Arnott, Elliot and Rowell. Wish we had 3 like them today. The sad thing was that they all outplayed a young lad called Brian Robson in the game against West Brom, but he went on to win all the honours.
