In all my years on 606 and not606 that is the first time I have been accused of that!! I do accept that I think twice before I tell somebody how to do a job that I have never done when they do it for a living but if it all goes wrong then everybody has the right to moan. When I saw that we were after Lafferty I did not have an orgasm with excitement but equally I was not dismayed. We already have RVW, Hooper, Grabban and Becchio and, even if one leaves, Lafferty is not going to be first choice. Who do you seriously suggest we could persuade to come here as 3rd, 4th or 5th choice striker? Logically, the signing of Lafferty indicates that one of the 4 others is on his way out but that still leaves him competing with Becchio and a couple of promising youngsters for a place on the bench. As Supers says he does give us a taller ' rough 'em up' option on the bench if we are playing a team that ' parks the bus '

Sums it up very nicely 1950. Seems a reasonable signing if it happens, but not every signing is going to get the pulse racing.

should also add, i'd take lafferty ahead of becchio - much better footballer who would offer more to the team than the argentine. don't quite get the rvw comparison as they are completely different types of striker. it would be like comparing lineker to crouch

It was purely a statisical comparison to explain that checking wikipedia is not the way to assess a player's quality <ok>

I think it looks like an Elmander replacement, but also I agree he should probably be ahead of Becchio

I don't mind someone physical who will beat up the opposition on occassions and get under their skin. We missed Holty last season as he was one who'd wind the opposition players and fans up and sometimes you need that kind of attitude to unruffle defenders and cause a bit of "atmospehere" with the opposition fans.

Let's face it - we hardly had anyone who got up the noses of opposition fans last year - maybe Bradders on occassions or Snoddy (long blade of grass, time to fall over) but we did lack that bit of character last season so maybe Lafferty, if he comes, may give us that.

Don't know enough about him to be objective so I've just popped down to Jewsons for some more fences to sit on.

This is him at his finest! <doh>

Looks bad indeed, but you could say the guy had his arm out and spun him round.

You can just see it at 1 second, but they don't show that bit in the replays because it would spoil the joke.

Are you saying their fences are crap?

<laugh>

6 MILLION EUROS <yikes> who ever sanctioned this move needs shooting!

That's, what £4.5m?

Sounds very steep so I don't believe it.

Is it likely to be that European thing of including the wages in the whole package? So say we're paying him £15kpw on a 3 year contract, they add on the total £2.4m in wages. I'm sure someone said that's been done before

I assumed he was out of contract and joining on a Bosman - surely we're not going to pay anything like that are we????

That's what I'm hoping!

I still think that sounds quite high - £2.1m for a guy with only one year left on his contract, when Sion got him on a free transfer and presumably don't want to keep him

EDIT: checked transfermarkt and he isn't on loan at Palermo (don't know why I thought he was) they bought him and he signed a 3 year contract last year, so he does have 2 years left. Transfermarkt value him at £2.64m, so I suppose that is a reasonable price objectively, though I still think it's quite steep for a striker who has hardly got a massive reputation.

Also - interesting he can play as a left winger...

A packet of Walls sausages would be a decent replacement for Goalmander !
