If you mean all Watford's representative teams - then Tony Coton (First team), Mel Reeves (Reserve team) and David James (Youth Team) all captained their teams in one week.

O.K. Which one time winners of the European Cup (In Football) began their first ever fixture playing with an oval ball - and why ?

Aston Villa? Their first ever match was a half rugby:half football affair against a local rugby team.

All yours BB. Their first match was against Aston Brook St. Mary's Rugby club - the first half being Rugby and the second football. Incredibly enough Villa held out to 0-0 at half time and won 1-0 in the second half. Take it away !

Which creature was mistakenly named by settlers who, when first sighting them, thought they were looking at a paddock full of melons?

Damn - you can't beat Google!

That's one of the theories regarding the origin of the name pademelon - a cute little fellow and the smallest of the macropod family...

Completely wild guess. There is a newspaper called the Leeds Mercury - but the connection to cornet escapes me - the Leeds Mercury have a cornet playing brass band ?

Anything to do with brass bands & the Leeds International Concert Season? Given your location - and that Cornet Carillon was the flip side to Amazing Grace by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. I also have a vague recollection of a piece of brass band music titled Mercury....
