Completely wild guess. There is a newspaper called the Leeds Mercury - but the connection to cornet escapes me - the Leeds Mercury have a cornet playing brass band ?
Anything to do with brass bands & the Leeds International Concert Season? Given your location - and that Cornet Carillon was the flip side to Amazing Grace by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. I also have a vague recollection of a piece of brass band music titled Mercury....
