Good signing to start off the Summer (you wouldn't believe it on today's weather...)! Can't go wrong with a free transfer on an international keeper with Champions League experience. Best season for Arsenal came in 2010-2011 where he played 14 league games (keeping 3 clean sheets and conceding just 9 goals). I'm almost convinced that this means Vorm is going - but I was in the club shop the other day and Vorm came in and bought a heck of a lot of Swans gear for, what looked like, his sister or sister-in-laws children. Probably spent between £500 and £1000. I know these guys are rich, but to piss away money like that? Or maybe they were just mementos for those kids to remember his old club. EDIT: Having re-read my post, what was I thinking?! Of course footballers piss away money like that...
If you took the time to read what Arsenal supporters are saying he's improved due to their coaching setup and they reckon it's a good move for him and us. Good luck with Vorm if you get him. Not the same keeper since his injury imo and some of us have been saying this before rumours of a move so it's honestly not sour grapes. Great distributor but his shot stopping abilities seem to have waned dramatically and he's never been able to command his area.
Was hoping to retain Vorm but the way she goes I guess . Arsenal will offer a few million more and Williams will be off imo
Musty, Fabianski was a free transfer as he's out of contract at the end of June. SSN just showed the shots stopped percentage and Vorms was 66% (I think) while Fabs was 75%.
From what I can remember, Vorm had one of the worst percentage of shots stopped in the league last season, not just in relation to Fabianski. He also faced one of the fewest amount of shots though. Few shots faced and low percentage of shots stopped mean that his concentration level was poor this season. Our keepers have to be ready to make saves even if they only have 1 or 2 to make in the entire match. This season, Vorm and Tremmel let shots go through them too many times (which is odd because Vorm's first two season's were exemplary and Tremmel's second season was equally as good). Maybe Fabianski will be the answer next season, because we leaked too many goals this season from shots which, while on target and well hit, should have been saved.
Best of luck with him, I hope he does well for you. He had an initially tough period at Arsenal in about 2009/10 and was sidelined for long periods with injury but really came back an improved player, the highlight of his career so far being keeping a clean sheet at the Allianz Arena in the 2012/13 season.
Fab comes with the right attitude - to be #1. I think this move indicates that Tremble might be released and that Vorm is now going to have competition to be #1. It also gives us some flexibility over the next couple of months. We can evaluate Vorm and Fab against each other in preseason and if we receive a good offer for Vorm we can move him on. Much will depend on whether Vorm is included in the final Dutch squad and if he plays, how he performs in Brazil - this will set his value. A good deal and if nothing else it is an upgrade to last season's #2.
I honestly dont think Vorm is staying. I doubt he would have signed if he thought he had to compete with Vorm and Tremmel fo rthe No.1 jersey. He left the gunners for that very reason. I am sure he has had assurances that Vorm is off and he is being lined up for that slot. Bottom line I am happy to trade in the Dutch No.3 for the Polish No.1 keeper.
I hope Vorm stays. That way we will have great competition between the goalkeepers. Tremmel should leave on a free transfer. Fabianski sees an opportunity to take the nr. 1 jersey. If he has seen any of the matches this year, he has seen that Vorm and Tremmel has had a bad year. I do not doubt that he has signed to compete with Vorm and Tremmel. If he does not have that kind of self confidence, then we do not need him.
Right at the beginning of last season i said that vorm had indicated that this was his last season, the rumor was rife at the time and it was thought he wanted to go back home to play but having further investigated it now seems like Brendan had indicated that he could want him the following season...Ash on the other hand don't really want to go anywhere and is haggling for a pay rise and that's what may happen and he will stay, .Fab is excuse the pun a Fab signing to replace vorm who's heart was not in the same frame of mind this season and let in some silly goals that he would never have done the previous season and that is human nature when you know you are playing your last season for the club....Vorm is quality and whether he does join Brendan or goes back home he will be fighting for the no1 jersey for his country. The next signing that we must look for is a striker as the way things are looking we wont be able to keep bony if the fee reaches £30m mark and the interest in him by big clubs is growing and come after the world cup then you never know what he will go for......Michu is staying for another season and that is not news at the liberty as he needs to prove that he is not another boddie type that breaks down every few games and nobody is going to chance paying big money on a player they are not sure about....
How would they know he has played 32 games league games in 6 years. Hardly a recomendation. I have to be honest this is a poor signing he is not good enough for us and will end up behind Tremmel. This guy was behind a host of appalling goalkeepers at Arsenal. Manone at Sunderland was before him as was Almunier (appologies for the spelling) I am gutted we have signed him and to give him 4 years is f**king maddness. This just smacks of cheap option instead of investing in a bit of quality. Just because he is free doesnt mean it is good buisness. we still have to pay him 4 years wages whether he is good or ****. I have written this without reading any other comments. I f i am at odds with most opinions I hope you are right and I am wrong. If this is the standard of our signings this summer then it will be a long season for us.
Its good for them as they are getting rid of a pisspoor goalkeeper. Red is right he might be 6'3' but my ****ing gran catches the ball better than him.
I doubt he lacks self confidence in competing I was merely stating that he himself said he wanted to leave Arsenal because he wanted guaranted 1st team football (something he wasn't getting from them). He wouldnt move to a lesser team just to do what he was doing there. He is after all an international keeper and needs to be playing 1st team football to retain that position long term. Do you really think when he was having talks with us that he wasn't given any assurances to the contrary. If that was the case he might as well stay put and play in all the cup comps with Arsenal. By Summers end Vorm will be in Liverpool!!
He is a quality keeper of international status who arsenal wanted to keep so he is no mug that's for sure just a keen keeper who wants first team football...
Both points are at odds with the fans on the Arsenal board. Just saying. Haven't seen any as yet express a view that they're glad he's gone though I'm sure some will hold that view.
It may well be right and he may end up being a good signing, as it stands for me I dont see it as that. I love the way they are (Arsenal fans) saying it will be good move for him and for us. Why because we shouldnt have as good a keeper as them it hat looking down on people attitude. Its only little Swansea so he should be good for them. I just feel there is better out there for a little bit of investment. Just smacks of the cheap option. Unless of course Vorm stays and he ends up NO.2 or 3.
