He's not different from all of them, why would he need to be? Jol and Redknapp did excellent jobs with us.
Pochettino, like Redknapp, has proven that his methods and style of play can work in this league which is really important. He's also shown he can bring players on at Southampton and Espanyol, showing the kind of frugality we need. Really he's along the same lines that brought us to signing AVB but he has those crucial extra ingredients that make him less of a gamble. It's one thing winning trophies abroad, like AVB, Ramos and De Boer, but it's not easy to come into the Premier League and recreate a more European style of football.
Pellegrini didn't have the stats or the trophies to make him a good choice on paper for a side that needs to win trophies regularly, like City, but they chose him because he's a good fit and it's shown to be an excellent decision so far. The experiences Pochettino's had make him a good fit for us. He sets his teams up to play the kind of attacking football the fans like to see, he's used to competing successfully against sides with far greater resources and has a history of developing players already at the club. The faults and doubts you can find with Pochettino are the same faults and doubts that you could find with Martinez and Rodgers so I don't think they count against a manager as much as people would believe.
There's no guarantees in football and fine margins can have big impacts but I'm positive that this is a step in the right direction in terms of manager choice. Away from the managers that haven't been successful in the PL and away from those that we might have gone with, like Benitez, who have a patchy history of success and are used to having big budgets that compete with the richest clubs in the league. Most of all I'm looking forward to us playing exciting football again, all this business of trying to make a mark against clubs who can afford to throw money around to cover any mistakes has worn me down and I'll be happy just to get back to enjoying watching us playing football.
