This may be right Impsaint, but begs the question if it is right, why the hell we only generated 6m (I think that was the commercial income figure)

Aren't those the figures for a new unfashionable team to the PL in it's first season after not being in the PL for while? I would bet Burnley and Leicester's commercial income would be similar next season. I would also say that a team like West Ham's would dwarf this figure last year for 2 reasons:

They are a fashionable club and they were only out of the PL for 1 season.

I would expect our commercial revenue to increase significantly year on year the longer we are in the premier even if we didn't try to increase it purely down to the visibility the PL has.

If they say "it's going to cost at least £30m", it is not reasonable to assume that it will cost a lot more than that. Considering it was almost complete when they said that it seems they would have a pretty good idea. If it was going to cost more than £40m, they'd have said more than £40m. So even assuming it's £92m, which I'd say is probably overestimating significantly, we're still nowhere near £200m, as was your original claim.

Now you're saying £100m, so how exactly are you not moving the goalposts?

I said some time ago that maybe it's not as much as £200m. If you go back to the beginning, you may notice that whether or not £200m is the right figure is not the central theme of this debate. It was merely part of one comment I made to support my argument that Markus did not buy this club to make a profit. Just because that particular comment is the one you picked up on does not mean that it is the focal point of this debate.

It is even less reasonable to assume that "at least £30m" means "£30m" and to then to somehow claim to have landed on a definite total.

As this thread is now over 2,000 posts long, I suggest we close it and start a Part II thread to aid those using the infamous phone app.

so why are you discussing 300m spent at villa as if it's significant? Villa are a lower mid table club with only a larger stadium and a couple of thousand more fans than us.

i can't speak for their academy setup. it used to be good. not so much any more.

It's significant because whatever proportion of that was spent on capital (and I have no idea what proportion that is) still remains and has the value of the club at a higher level than it would be had said capital never been purchased. To put it simply, if he invested at all in facilities, presumably those facilities are still there and are worth more than the previous ones.
