The Guardian's take on the situation: http://www.theguardian.com/football...tino-advanced-talks-tottenham-hotspur-manager

I'm a bit troubled by what I presume are assumptions made in this paragraph:

Southampton have been desperate to hold on to Pochettino and have held talks with the 42-year-old since the end of the season in an attempt to dissuade him from leaving. They had been hopeful that he would sign a new contract, yet Pochettino’s mind was made up after Southampton were unable to provide him with assurances that they would be able to keep their best players and try to break into the elite after finishing eighth last season, two places below Tottenham. Pochettino believes that his ambition cannot be satisfied at St Mary’s and that he would be better served by joining Tottenham, who have the foundations in place to provide him with the resources to challenge for a place in the top four.

Seems Pochettino has also been in talks with Guardian journalists, so apparently familiar are they with his feelings.

Considering they tried to give us assurances that we would keep players, I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't give Pochettino the same assurances in private. "Breaking into the elite" would have been impossible to promise really... not sure how even Spurs could assure him of that.

I don't think I could take a couple more years of Nigel interviews. Give me big Dave Salas any day.

What about having David Salas translate Nigel's cliches into plain English?

Nigel - "Didn't get the points but at the end of the day, we just have to draw a line under it and keep pushing in the same direction."

David - "[checking notes] He says that we were woeful defensively and could easily have lost 5-0."

For the record, i'm not saying Nigel should be our first target to be manager again, merely that if the situation did arise, I wouldn't be disappointed. He has been one of the most successful managers in our history. Sure, league one and the Championship are not of the same standard as the top tier, but he won in them all the same.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Good night folks.

Hahaha I was going to do something like this, but you did it better.

I think having Salas doing Adkins clichés could be a fun thing to have on here...

Nigel - "There's a great togetherness, we all feel that we are striving for the same objectives, a common goal. There's a buzz about the place and the players are all happy with smiles on their faces. It's important that we do everything we can to create that positive environment in which everyone can thrive and succeed."

David - "He says that we have good team spirit."

I think you'd definitely see the back of a few key players were Nigel brought back again.

Just woke up to find all this. Poch's shown his true colours then, can't even spend one more year here, what a twat!! Hope it all goes horribly wrong for him.

I bet he tries to sign at least two of our players, Chambers and Lovren probably.

Why are some people still saying Beattie? If he ever came here I would rip my season ticket up.

I absolutely loathe people who talk negatively of Nigel. What more could the man have done down here in the time given. We played sexy football, we got back to back promotions and were consolidating when he got harshly sacked. People seem to think he took us as far as he could, based on what? He doesn't come from south america and have an exotic name or the professional pedigree and fame of someone who fouled Michael Owen in 02. Good riddance to Poch, done an okay job, but no loyalty, never seemed to take to the club or its fans and lets not forget he did bring in Osvaldo and Wanyama for a nearmy 30 million combined fee.

And what's wrong with Wanyama?

adkins was a good manager for us sure, but it's only now that he isn't our manager that I notice how ****ing annoying he is

Did an excellent job with Middlesbrough I thought, plus years of experience as Fergie's number 2.

Didn't follow much of his work in Holland (The Netherlands ^^^) other than he won the league and gained an accent.

So I'd be happy to have him

Would also be happy with Moyes, for what it's worth (can't deny the success he had with Everton, and had a reasonable record with younger players)

I don't think he did an excellent job at Boro. Two months before he snuck two wins in the Europa league, he had fans wanting to throw season tickets at him. Big Sam was about to be given the England job until Panaroma accused him of being a crook and Boro came back from 2/3 goals down twice in that cup, so McLaren got the job instead.

I think I'm alone, but if he goes I'd like him to be a success at Spurs. Mainly because loads of their fans seem to think they're better than him, but also because I don't dislike the guy at all and I think he's a hugely talented young manager with ambition. Plus he coaches football the right way. Good luck to him.

I'd like him to fail because then it would mean our players were the success and probably also mean that any new manager wouldn't have too much of a problem to get them to keep playing. Blokes been here a year and a half. Was unknown in England and deserts when the first big offer comes up. Done well for us but I'm not a fan of deserters.

And I wouldn't be upset in the least if Nigel were to come back. Was just getting us playing well before he was sacked. Would also mean I can keep my signature forever although it still makes sense.

I was asked by someone sat next to me while I was on this forum after he was sacked, why my signature still said 'one Nigel Adkins'. I replied 'Are there two Nigel Adkins'.

It won't happen though. Wouldn't want McLaren. Don't want any others on that list. Laudrup - No thanks.

Not heard Dyche mentioned. Could be a leftfield 'up and comer'
