Now that, out of any quote I've read this summer, is the most worrying.

If you take it out of context it is. The full quote is not so bad:

Its always flattering to know that big clubs are looking at you. Its shows that you are progressing as a player and that you are being recognised for what you are doing on the pitch.

I guess the dressing room has been a bit on edge. No one really knows where their future lies. Whether they will be back next season or not.

But it has also made the players perform better, knowing there has been people watching us and with a World Cup around the corner. People have been trying to get into the England squad for it. I’m sure it has actually helped.

He was desperate for a Premier League job before he ended up at Derby.

He's got a nice little number there, though. I'd definitely try and find out if he's interested - but then I am a big McClaren fan.

He nearly became our boss just before he was named Boro boss. He had 3 offers: Middlesbrough, Southampton and West Ham.

Heh, it might even be worse...he's basically stating that the players were motivated to perform in part because they knew that potential buyers were keeping tabs on them.

If you're determined to find the most negative reading of it, yes. Looks to me like he was just desperate to get into the England squad.

I've constantly and endlessly said 'Poch won't go, the players won't go'.

It's now looking highly likely that Poch will go, as will probably Shaw at least.

That will be a huge dent in our preparations for next season...

People are calling for Adkins to come back... lord help us all.

Why exactly? He got us two promotions, back to back, had us nearly at mid table in the Premier League, and was ruthlessly sacked. He is a good guy, and a good manager, and would do a fine job if he returned. You shouldn't be so arrogant to dismiss someone like Nige, who knows the club, the players, and had an excellent record (albeit not all in the PL).

I'm currently locked in a debate with a Saints fan who suggests Adkins would be better than McClaren because he 'knows the club' and got us out of L1/Champ.

How?!?!

I don't think I could ever watch a Saints related interview again, Krueger with his managerial talk and Adkins with his over the top smugness and positivity.

I'm currently locked in a debate with a Saints fan who suggests that Steve McClaren is better than Nigel Adkins because he failed to get promotion from the Championship, and hasn't been successful in England, until Derby, since about 10 years ago. If you are judging him on Derby then I would still have Nigel.

The gratitude of some people, honestly, to a manager who took us to the PL in 2 seasons from League One, united the club, the supporters, and did a good job in the PL.

I'm not advocating Adkins' return, but I think you're conflating the argument itself with the idiot making it (presuming you're not referring to AL here!). His unlikely return would hardly be the end of the world. It certainly shouldn't prompt cries of "lord help us all".

I'm saying "lord help us all" at the fact some Saints supporters' default reaction is to pine for Adkins immediately.
