BUT Benali would give everything for Saints. Hoiveld is a decent player etc etc. They were/are all OK: not the best but far from the worst.
Yep. Opening game of the season at home to Palace got smashed 1-4. The most shambolic defensive performance I've probably ever witnessed. Bennett was clueless. Vignal and Makin also played in that woeful game.

Am I the only person who remembers Dave McLaren, signed from Wolves (after we beat them 9-3) to replace Campbell Forsyth who had broken his leg? Worst goalie I've seen play for Saints.

Mickey Evans wasn't bad at all. We signed with a handful of games to go, he scored half a dozen times, and we stayed up.

George Lawrence got big Ron the sack. We could hold him responsible for Fergie's reign at United.
