I can't see how taking a 33yr old with 2-3 years of managerial experience in a weak European league albeit at a very good club will help the Chavs knock ManUSA off their perch in England and Barcelona in the CL.

I think if it goes tits up for AVB, then Roman will appoint himself manager and let Terry give team talks with some russian coaches doing the fitness training.

AVB must have a massive contract and if he is fired i'm guessing that will be a huge fee as well.

as a chelsea fan... i think this appointment is really exciting news for us. maybe just maybe this lad could last a long time and even if he doesnt live up to his expectations in the first season i can actually see roman sticking with him.
the thing i dont get is loads of fans hoping hes ****e and all that like one spurs fan that came on our board... most fans (some spurs, arsenal, norwich) have been really supportive of the appointment and wish him all the best wish i think is good to see...

It's nice when nice people say nice stuff about your club, isn't it?

Maybe he'll be good, maybe he'll be bad, who know, who cares...

The thing is mate, as we were discussing the other day - previous managers on big contracts have been on the receiving end of Roman's banhammer for not delivering what he wants.

So the question is - what targets has Roman set him? Surely anything other than a CL trophy come next may would be deemed as a failure?

So let's say you are 10 points adrift in the league, get knocked out in the quarters of the CL - do you still envisage AVB being at the helm with Roman's slaughtering record? I don't.

Shelf side. Apparently he has to win the quadruple to get a second season. Even then he's on a written warning.

first things first... we hopefully wont be in that situation.. obviously roman wants to win the CL an d if we make the semis this year then we will be showing some progress... but at the end of the day, obviously i want AVB to stay with us for a very long duration. hes a nice guy, quite witty and he is a good manager. he broke most of mourinhos records at porto and if he can beat the special ones records at chelsea then that would be incredible. that said roman is our owner and can do what he wants... if it wasnt for him we could have been relegated due to our financial situation so we do owe a lot to him but i really hope he holds out on AVB.

Don't worry, the russian isn't reading this, you can stop the arse licking

Perhaps he's realised that he made a mistake with Mourinho and is trying to return to the day of his reign, but without losing face?

Abramovich must have had a change of personality.

He has cast aside some of the best managers in the world, despite their relative success at the club, in his search for the holy grail of the CL.

Yet now, he places his faith in a largely unproven 33 year old with no PL experience and no CL pedigree.

It seems very odd.

yeah it is a bit odd but certainly exciting times for a chelsea fan :)
