http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nsive-defender-mega-deal-close-50million.html PSG are nuts: 40m on Silva and 30m on Marquinos. Now 50m Luiz!! f**k FFP even thought they have just been fined! If the Luiz deal happens they'll have 4 Brazilian Cbs. PSG potentially interested in Oscar and obviously Hazard too. Should we consider selling a knackered Oscar if they bid sillyness on him??
Its from the Fail so the figures at least will be BS I would wager. But if we were offered 50m for Luiz I would take their hand off. Luiz is a decent player, but we could easily replace him with that kind of money and have change left.
They would have to be nuts to spend 40 million on Luiz. He's a good footballer, but as far as defending goes he's shocking, he may do better in a side like PSG who have a more attack is the best form of defence approach. Chelsea's way of playing with there centre backs sitting deep, relies on defenders who are good positionally, where as at PSG there will be a lot more space in behind, so he'll have more time to use his pace to get out of jail. The problem with the deep line, is if you make a positional error chances are the forward will have a chance at goal. Chelsea have always had to play this way to accommodate Terry who's severely lacking in pace, so Luiz is never going to be suited to playing the Chelsea way
Luiz is not a Premier League defender, don't care what anyone says. If a bid anywhere near £40-50m comes in we should be tearing their arm off.
Much as i like Luiz if £50 mio is on the table snap their hand off same applies if we get decent offer for Oscar But feel we should resist a mega bid for Hazard as he is destined to be on the same level as Ronaldo and Messi in a couple of years
Probably right Drog. He got found out in central midfield v PSG away, and Palace away too, despite the high hopes for him. He did better at PSG at home. Are they going to play him CB or CM?
He has had very good games, there's no denying that. But he's just not good enough to dislodge Cahill or Terry in defence and Matic in midfield. He is too rash and doesn't seem to have learnt from his mistakes he was making when he first joined at 23. He will probably end up being very good for PSG or Barca, but he's not suited to this league in my eyes and what good is that when a £50m bid comes in!
Anything over £30 mil and you have a deal. Going past £40 mil?! Wow! Not sure I believe that figure yet though...either way I am happy for Luiz to go. Oscar and Hazard. Hmm. I would consider selling one of them as long as it funded a move for someone like Reus (who is a better player and would probably come a lot cheaper than what we would sell our boys for). Oscar could go for upwards £60m and Hazard upwards £80. If PSG have the money and they are willing to spend it, may as well make them pay. Anyway, I doubt any of these moves would happen. Perhaps just the Luiz move. Either way, PSG really cannot afford to be chucking cash everywhere at the moment...
As above I think for that sort of money (anywhere north of 35 million in reality) you'd probably have to sell. I think he is a fantastic player on his day and love his attitude but he'd struggle to get in our best 11 at the moment. Terry and Cahill are nailed down first choice at the back, Ivan is a very capable back up and we have very promising youngsters in Kalas, Zouma etc. In midfield he's probably behind Matic and Ramires at least. For that money you could bring in a more established midfielder. Someone like Fabregas (as much as I don't like the guy) would do wonders alongside Matic and is a similar age.
25+M most would be happy. That is crazy money they are talking. However, he would be off most certainly.
Think he's worth more than 25. That's pretty much what we paid for him before he was a C.L and E.L winner and established Brazil international. PSG paid 30 odd million for that young defender from Roma (?).
One thing wrong with Loopy Luiz, and it is the same one Rio Ferdinand had/has, concentration. It is a difficult one to solve, it needs the player to realise that they have a problem which is often an insurmountable one then for a lot of one on one work of an unfootball type nature. It stems from a person's basic nature, and it is often hard wired genetically. What I've seen of Luiz is that he is an extremely social person, again much like Rio. Their interests are broadly the same, music and a extrovert social life. Is it worth working on? Man U thought so with Rio, but Jose is a polisher not a developer, for him Luiz may be too old in his opinion to change. Mental discipline and toughness make good players great and great players legends. Two letters JT.
Rio was a little suspect in his younger days with concentration, but from 2006 onwards when we signed Vidic Rio's concentration improved a lot, as Vidic was a real talker at the back, and would make sure Rio never switched off. Luiz is a lot worse than Rio ever was, and still makes lots of concentration errors no matter who's along side him, so I think your best off getting rid
Doesn't happen often but have to agree with you. I think Luiz has just as much talent (if not more so going forward) than Rio but he's 27 now and hasn't shown the level of consistency that Rio was by now. Rio in his prime alongside Vidic was one of the best defensive partnerships in Europe. Almost as good as Terry and Carvalho I think his failings are over exaggerated at times but when you're talking about 40-50 million you'd want the best defender in the world, which Luiz clearly isn't.
Three questions when a player of yours is looking like he is leaving: 1)Is he worth the money being spoken of? 2)Is the club a direct and immediate rival? 3)Is he a 'must not sell' player in the squad? Answers: 1)No, 40 million is a great deal for us 2)PSG are a French club, but as years go on they may possibly become a challenger in the CL for us 3)No, he is never going to be first choice in any position in a big game with our current squad at the moment All in all, I think it is a good deal if we can get 40 million as we can replace him or better even use the funds to strengthen in other areas. Of course when a player leaves it's not party time(except Torres), but Luiz has done the best he could for us and unfortunately that best wasn't good enough or consistent enough for him to be unsellable.
Looks like Luiz is having his medical in Brazil. Jose is not effing about this season. He wants the squad ready to dominate from Matchday One. No preseason tour too
