Why do the Mags have this ludicrous obsession with Shola Ameobi having some kind of hex over Sunderland?

He'll go down in the airbrushed 'Geordie history' along with Bobby Robson never being heckled, Kevin Keegan being B&W to the core, the ancient gates being back in their rightful place and the Fairs Cup actually being the European Cup and not a competition that died of shame.

Sunderland kids looking at the poor old fella being pushed onto the SOL pitch, next season, will be wondering who the **** he is.

He managed to 'slay' us once in the last half a dozen years ffs and that was the 3rd goal when we'd already lost the game <doh>

2013/14 Lost home & away to Sunderland - failed to score
2012/13 Lost at home, drew away - failed to score
2011/12 Won away, drew at home - scored 1 goal in the draw
2010/11 Won at home, drew away - scored 2 goals in the win
2009/10 Championship
2008/09 Lost away, Drew at home -scored in both

But the question is why do you lot have this daft nickname when it's not really based on fact?

Is it because, like us, you've won nowt and clutch whatever straws drift by on the current?

And that's pretty much it isn't it? I mean 54 goals in 14 years of being a professional centrer forward. Even Jozy has managed 56 in his 8 years of being professional. <laugh> :p

He won't get the number 9 as Cisse has it and his current injury means he won't leave. Also, if he were to join, it would be another huge kick in the goolies. He is not the type to "keep us in the top ten" :/

I suppose it's bad enough having Cisse wearing it ........ those days with Shearer must seem like a distant memory.

We've no idea who we'll have up front next season.

Will it be our crocked Jock, our Emile Heskey, a loanee or a kid who couldn't score and now can't stop?

Have faith in Whickham. Not often I agree with Niall Quinn but he could be the next Alan Shearer. He is unlikely to do as well as him but you never know!

Unless there's another Shearer who won more than one trophy in a 20 year career and relegated his club for good measure <ok>

Seriously, Wickham has everything you could want in a modern striker. Now that he's seen what the right application can achieve I think he'll fly and I can't wait to see him next season if we give him the right service.
 
It makes a little bit of sense because, for a striker who has scored about 50 goals in his entire career, to have 6 against one club who also happen to be your arch rivals in quite remarkable. Add in him being a Geordie and it is a bit special.

I think it's 7 but what would I know <doh>

The point is that he's supposed to be a 'slayer' when he isn't really ....
..... it's just another of these King Kevin or Geordie Nation things that no one will admit to saying in the future.

When you knock off the goals he scored from the penalty spot and the goals that didn't win games it adds up to nowt in particular tbh.

You could just as easily call him Shola the outfield Alan Harper of Newcastle <ok>
 
Despite how many goals he knocks past us I can't blame myself to hate Shola to be honest, he seems like a decent bloke and it's hilarious how the Mags seem to be effectively keeping him on so that he'll score against us. Don't think he's got one in the last 7 as far as I can remember, so long may it continue!
