  1. Charlie Smith: Big season, Liverpool. Sensational. Naturally disappointed, but we're back in the big time! Even better next season, boys!

    Or, back to midtable obscurity.

I know which scenario my money will be on, pal.

I assume HIAG is storing these ones up for elsewhere ...

Rob, Newbury: Five years ago Liverpool came second with 86 points. The following year they were seventh. It will happen again.

Peter, Havant: It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool in my eyes. The title is the only thing that counts!
Being in Europe will be a distraction and Liverpool will be lucky to make the top seven next season. I can see that I will have to wait
another 20 years before Liverpool get another sniff at the title.

Congratulations to Manchester City - worthy Champions (and a far lesser evil than Liverpool winning it)

Yes, a Suarez-less Liverpool, with that defence and their young players being found out and coped with better by wiser teams, will do well to avoid relegation next season.

Last time Liverpool finished second, they gave their manager a bumper contract just in time for them to be found out the next season, which saw them finish seventh and said manager lose his job - which cost the club a small fortune.

Funny how that part of their history doesn't get remembered so much...

No. We remember it well. I actually have mentioned it a few times in the last few weeks and would like us all to be mindful of it! But no point worrying about all that could go wrong. And I think rafa's style and ageing squad had issues that were masked that year. We're a young team and BR is a young manager, I think an implosion is slightly unlikely.

  7. But not completely improbable.

  9. Were those odds laid before or after the appointment of Moyes?

If "after," then the odds on United were far too short. I know the media, to a man, was utterly bewildered when Moyes got the sack, but, in the real world, I don't know anyone who didn't think that he'd get the sack before the season finished, and that United would plummet in the league faster than the Gary Glitter Fan Club membership, or the re-sale value of a "Jim Fixed It For Me" medal.

'Pool's odds were surprisingly long, given the fact that, every year, every male Mouser bets his shirt on 'Pool winning the title.

    Latest odds, HIAG.

Interesting odds on next Utd manager too - van Gaal 1/33, Pardew 100/1, Curbishley 100/1, Sherwood 150/1, Terry Connor 150/1.

Who makes this up? By that reckoning Mother Teresa must be around 33/1, Adam Ant 66/1 and that old bloke from the old Terry's Chocolate Orange ad 80/1.

  11. Well, those odds must be the bookies' starting odds, because 'Pool's odds are far too long. By the time that Merseyside has cashed a king's ransom in giro cheques at William Hill, those odds will be totally screwed.

Yeah, I remember arguing with you all on the old 606 board that losing Xabi Alonso would hurt, even though he didn't have that many goals or assists. Of course, I also said that if FMG could get the Red Sox a title, they could certainly get Liverpool one...<whistle>

  13. West Ham striker Andy Carroll, put on stand by for the World Cup by England boss Roy Hodgson, says he would rather be in Brazil than on holiday with his girlfriend in Dubai.
    (Source: Daily Mail)

Of course he would. In Brazil, with the England, he can get pissed up at any time he likes without fear of having his hands chopped off.

It's a lot cheaper to get a round in when you're in Brazil, too.

Nicked from the Chelsea board, who nicked it from the Arsenal board (I mean recycled)

Chelsea's problem is easy to see, but demonstrates where we went wrong. Have to match up to the likes of Arsenal and Pool next year if we are to move up. Impressive how we dealt with the rest of the teams though - only 2 points worse than Liverpool.

The Goons showing where the hay is most easily made.
They only needed another 7 pts from the top seven to finish in a CL slot again.
