If Monk is not our manager for next season , he should not be close to another Swansea managers team again imo. Maybe he can try again down the road if we drop , but only then .

Well, if the reporting is accurate then Laudrup was asked to have Monk on his staff and tried to defer the conversation because of the pending Cardiff game, which I interpret as a polite no. I think he lasted just long enough for somebody to figure out how to send a text or an email or whatever.
It will be interesting to see how these dynamics play out.
The first time I've left the last home game of the season without seeing the players back on. After the shower of shine they produced today I couldn't be bothered - they didn't seem to be.
Strange team selection, strange subs, no pattern and no cohesion.
...but it was the same team as last week apart from Rangel who was injured. Did you find last week's team selection strange as well?

It wasn't so much the starting line-up, it was the shape of the team up until the first sub. We were playing some crazy 4-4-2 with Routs up alongside Bony.
Well if you think that the formation wasn't strange today then I'm not sure what you were watching. We had no width and played too centrally where Saints flooded the field. Absolutely zero room to move. Not sure where Routledge was told to play but he seemed up front on his own at one point when Bony dropped deep. Wtf?
Doesn't bode well for the new season if that's what we've got to look forward to.

Last week was last week and what happened in that game should have influenced this one. Villa were appalling and we got lucky, fair enough we made our luck but Southampton were always going to be a different proposition.
Apparently Chico is now injured! So I'll give him that, but Taylor wasn't. I'm demonstrably no fan of Taylor but he has more experience than Tiendalli and with Amat (another with little experience) in the back four there is already a weakness on our right, add to that a poor DeGuzman ahead of them and we have an even weaker right side. JdG is also slow and offers no width. Routledge was playing a central roll, Bony was at times hugging the touchline to try to create space. Southampton are one of the tallest sides in the league yet Bartley was left on the bench. ]
Pablo has played well recently but his lack of pace is shocking and while JdG is in midfield alongside (on the wing or wherever he was supposed to be) it doesn't work.
Dyer came on and immediately space was opened up and the right side began to offer something, that in turn gave more space on the left and Ben came more into the game.
Emnes's inclusion produced what we should have had from the start .. a presence to occupy their defence and midfield.
Southampton get bodies back quickly in defence and IMO we have only one player who finds a way through that sort of defence and that's Pozuelo.
I can accept Monk's inexperience I can't accept his naivety.
And, given how poor Vorm has been recently GT could not do worse, their goal was unforgivable. (That said he did use his arm to nudge it in).
We only seemed to have any urgency right at the end with the subs. Contrast that to Stoke, West Ham and Villa who gave their fans a good send off. Villa roared out of the blocks like their lives depended on it!

Monk's formation just wasn't right. The details have already been covered above but on my stream the commentators were continually questioning why we weren't playing with more width, something that Laudrup was accused of by some on this board. Other posters must have watched the same stream as me so would appreciate some confirmation of what I heard.
I used the NBC Sports broadcast, which I is the live coverage of whoever has that contract in the UK - BT?

Well I was at the game and I noticed it and commentated to my mates that we looked a bit weird at times. They agreed we didn't play with any width and were playing down the centre too much. Bit naive if you ask me.
Agree Ivor, I thought we played very narrow, and this was something that Laudrup liked to do and got slated for it. Not slagging off, but De Guzman is no winger, are we keeping him sweet by playing games so he signs in the summer. Dyer should have started yesterday, hell my 16 year old just starting his coaching badges knew that Dyer with his pace, was going to be a danger to Southampton.
Plus he always has a decent game against his old club.
We wondered something similar re JdG - giving him as much game time as possible to help improve his chances of a place in Holland's World Cup squad.
same team as last game apart from rangel and the moaning mini's are out in force. The both teams played out a typical end of season game that had sod all on it and the inexperienced fan and monk haters jump on the band wagon of expecting the team to play the game as if we needed the points 
It was never going to happen girls and those of you who say you have followed football for years should at the very least know that.. Only aswan,bob and when swans are flying seem to understand how football clubs work when there is nothing to play for and their suit cases are packed. It happens every season so why should it not happen this season.
Apparently deGuzman has said he wants to stay with Swansea unless he plays in the World Cup, if he does he'll be asking Villareal to sell him to Man Utd to stay with van Gaal … so we're giving him evert opportunity to show he's world class.
Backfiring a bit, isn't it.

I know man utd are desperate for players but JDG is going a bit to far. He needs a better side than them
