Sitting through that was as bad as it gets, no passion, commitment, desire and not much ability on show either, to give Monk the managers job after this would be catastrophic. Outplayed,out manoeuvred, and out classed. Never seen so many long balls hit no nobody. Disgraceful performance, then listening to monk on radio on way home saying how unlucky we were and talking about all the chances we created. He must have been watching some other game on his laptop. Appalling.

The Board has a duty to the shareholders (not forgetting the fans) to seek out the "best" Manager. Surely, they need to interview more than one guy?

Well, I wasn't far off with that prediction. Experienced fans like me and Daiswan can see these things coming...Here's to a good summer off and then back to the Liberty in August to watch Garry Monk's first full season in charge...<running away quickly>

I did warn you that it will be a game of no event, We see it every single season where teams have nothing to play for just go through the motions. Why risk injuring yourself when your about to go on holiday or in bony's case the world cup....Been watching football far to long not to know what teams do when its meaningless .....It was party time atmosphere because we will play a 4th season and monk had a standing ovation......the game was a non event and experienced fans know it or should know it....

What were you all expecting?

This was a Jenkins issue and not a Monk one . No matter who was thrown in as manager they were going to struggle with Laudrups healthy , but confused team .Monk did his job within the parameters of a controlling chairman to keep us up , a chairman who had done a " Perfect " job till this , interfering season .

Lots of 'told you so' comments from 'experienced fans' here. How do you know how 'experienced' the rest of us are?

You don't.

See, you don't have to have been a fan for more than a year to see that we're a team that goes to the beach when we're safe. Try last season. I think some who were predicting a win were doing it more in hope than anything else.

By the way I'd be interested to see whether you actually think the attitude shown today was praiseworthy?

Well with a very poor Southampton today, any Manager worth his salt would have got to grips with the game and grabbed the 3 points, clearly Monk cannot be that bothered to get the job full time, so lets hope the board makes sure he doesn't!.................

Monk has the job so get over yourselves. Today game was just two teams finishing the season off and nothing more. If you are a regular fan then you should know what to expect All this commotion over nothing .. Have you not seen any matches at the end of the season before when there is nothing to play for.? It don't look like the way some of you are acting like little girls. Look at the reception monk and the players had and perhaps one day you may understand what football is all about.. Its bags packed and ready for their holidays, they are not going to ruin that for anyone if they don't have to and they didn't and that goes for the both teams...

Yeah by less than 30% of the fans. The rest had already left. Just to be clear there were a lot of fans very unhappy outside the Liberty this afternoon and not just about the performance but more concerned with the inevitable fact that Monk is going to be the next manager. Ii thought this guy was meant to be Mr Motivator, well I am sorry to say but I saw nothing different than what we had with ML and if he isnt good enough then GM isnt either. Oh and by the way I didnt see any party time atmosphere.

Just to add I expected more today than last season as then we had already won the cup and qualified for Europe. Now that was something to celebrate. However I expected Mr Motivator to actually motivate that team and prove he is worthy of the job otherwise it smacks of arrogance!! If ML deserved the slagging off at the way we ended last season then Monk deserves no less than the same

You're right, there wasn't much party-time atmosphere. I think a lot of people left due to conceding a goal in injury time, otherwise more would have stayed (maybe).

My 'experienced fans' was a bit tongue-in-cheek, Dragonborn. Don't take it too seriously.

I certainly wouldn't say Southampton were very poor; they ran us ragged for most of the game because they are a good side. They're like Swansea in many respects - a good passing team with little cutting edge (on today's showing). There were a couple of chances for both sides but neither team deserved to win really, and 0-0 would have been a fair result based on both sides performances.

We weren't not playing agains utter rubbish unlike in the last 3 - 4 games.
Soton are all over us (literally as the ref is letting every upper boy foul go unpunished - like playing Stoke + passing)

I'd already left the ground but my mate stayed behind. The usual appreciation was given to the players for their efforts as I understand it. Saying 'Gary Monk was given a standing ovation' is a complete and utter distortion.

This game was shocking, last game at home he was supposed to give us something to cheer. I have never booed the team in any league or any cup but I came close today. I wish I'd stayed home and carried on with the decorating! If this chump is allowed to stay its Championship next year defo.

Ture - I'm trying to decide whether or not to go to Sunderland next Saturday. As much as I love the Swans I don't see why I should turn up if they don't.

If the scuttle-butt is true, Monk was a malcontent under Laudrup and thought nothing of going around him to HJ. Something similar apparently happened with Sousa. This is a pattern. My concern is that the pattern would repeat with Monk as an assistant to a new manager. This is a disruptive pattern in any organization. Monk may in fact be his own worst enemy. It's tough to learn if you think you know more than the person doing the "teaching" or mentoring or whatever - it just doesn't work. This poses an operational risk and a financial risk. Operationally it would interfere with the best development of the squad and results on the field. Financially it would cost us to lose another manager before the natural end of a contract.

We cannot tolerate two "heads" of state in a football club and that apparently is what we had under Laudrup and somewhat under Sousa. The players must know who they report to, who calls the shots, and there can be no ambiguity about that.

If a new manager comes in I think Monk would have to go. I think a new candidate that has done due diligence on the club would almost insist on a clean slate and would want to bring in his own people. This will be the Board's challenge - do they truly have the best interest of the club at heart, and do they have the strength of will to let Monk go.

Don't disagree with you - clearly, any incoming Manager would have to agree to having GM on his staff.
