I don't know how reliable yahoo is but they are reporting we have bidded for Connor wickham.

Hope its true but even if it is, we still have a long way to go to sign him.

    Thoughts?

Looks a real prospect, but still represent a massive gamble.

Could be great, could be Jonny Stead mark II.

Think if we still had Bent along with Gyan and Campbell it would be a good deal

but with only one main striker in Gyan think for this transfer window it would be better spending that sort of money on a proven player at premiership level

would love us to sign him, but honestly, not worth the gamble. would be if, at the least, campbell was fit, but he ain't.

all it would take is one bad challenge on gyan and we'd have an 18 year old kid with 0 premier league games as our only first team striker.

    Exactly.

Now, if we sign an established striker AND Whickham, i'm all for it.

IMO I only think we will bring in Wickham if SAF allows us Welbeck to come onloan to be the man to partner Gyan.

Gyan, Welbeck, N'Gog, Wickham and Campbell would be a pretty canny strike force

We are stepping up our interest, he would prefer to go to pool but first te football might swing it in our favour...

Just read that he has a £15m buy out clause in his contract. For that figure no thanks, if we are going to drop that on a striker id want a lot better and a lot more proven. and if it were to be £15m for a young english striker my first three words of any phone call would be "hello sir alex".

Would love Wickham! Don't think he'd come here though for some reason. The Liverpool interest would probably flatter him too much. Would love him to come although if he came to us I'm sure it would have to be with the guarantee of first team football.. If he was going to be a bench warmer we'd have no chance.
