Well I still think that's irrelevant. He can agitate for a move as much as he likes, if we don't accept an offer for him he'll have to suck it up. I'm not saying we won't, but you're all talking like Shaw is the only one with a decision to make here.

That's true, but I don't see any sign that he wants to go. If players have a lot of interest from top clubs but don't particularly want to move, they can renegotiate their contracts, usually whilst extended the term. At present he is first choice at a top eight side. It's not like we are in the lower divisions. Players don't usually sign long contracts unless they intend to stay a while. Don't think he will be moving this window, any road.

Davis
Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox
Cork Schneiderlin Hammond
Lallana Lambert Guly

Looking back at it, that's a damn good team, even without Ox.

And that's without including Chaplow, who was a monster for us until he got injured at Bristol City.

Don't why everyone is wringing their knickers over another rehashed article about Luke. They've added the bit about Moyes because when it doesn't happen thay have a ready made excuse. Also Luke is an excellent player with potential...he won't win the title on his own...he's a LB not a striker. Teams may make enquiries, but they won't sell the family silver to pay for it.

Peach says he's checked the Shaw story out and been doing some digging at Saints end.

Seems there is a situation ongoing, but the ball is in Saints' court and there has been no decision made as of yet.

His words "general consensus is that nothing is decided just yet" imply (to me at least) that his digging was fruitless, so would take that with a pinch of salt.

You don't have to think very hard for a counter-example: it was pretty well-known that Moyes wanted Baines last summer, and Baines wanted to go, but Everton wouldn't sell him and he accepted it.

Mmmm. Didn't Baines sign a new contract? If he did, doesn't sound like someone wanting to go.

Well quite. Were we to be offered that much, I wouldn't be exactly surprised if we accepted, and were we to accept, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he took the money. But him being in a position to take the money is a way down the road yet, and I would certainly expect him to honour his contract if we don't accept an offer for him. After all it's unlikely United would be as interested in the future if he was that unprofessional (which he's shown no signs of being yet).

Do you really believe that agents haven't had conversations? I also would bet there has been "no offer" to Saints, but a conversation had over a perceived value.

He did, Everton have admitted as much: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...eveals-toffees-coach-alan-stubbs-8829126.html

I have no idea. Don't think it makes a difference though. Even if they had, he's in no position to take the money if we don't accept an offer for him.

Factually spot on, however there is a lot of "grey area" when talking about and deals happening.

On another point, a few posts back you said that players are generally happy with their lot and just get on with things (or words to that effect); do you know this, or know many players? That's quite an assumption if you have no insight. In the case if Shaw, the chance of quadrupling or close to it, your salary, might move him to not so 'generally happy'

I don't just mean agents of Shaw; Southampton people too could be in conversation, which would mean that he may have made a 'decision' pending a deal being done by the clubs.

It's all guess work for now anyway.

No I don't, that's why it was prefaced with "I think". I don't claim to have any kind of special insight but I have no reason to assume that footballers are mercenary delinquents by default, do you? Any money that Shaw might have his eyes on is entirely theoretical until an offer is accepted by the club.

That may well be true, but again, unless he has been explicitly told the decision is his to make, it makes no difference.

You are the master of semantics PTF! What (I think) is being said and what I also believe would be true, is that it's very possible that a bid of around 30m could come in for Shaw from a massive club. We might reject it, and the subsequent c. 100k p/w he possibly believes is on offer. That might upset him a bit and make him unsettled as he may perceive he's being denied a career furthering (and finance furthering) opportunity. As has happened with countless players countless times previously. Also, it might even be understandable for him to feel that. Okay?

Do I really have to make clear before everything I say that it is my opinion only and that I have no privileged information?

Yes, that's all very clear thank you. My answer to him would be just as I have stated - that money is not yours until the deal has been agreed by all parties. If he gets his nose out of joint about that then he should be reminded that he signed a contract and the club has the final say about whether he goes or not, and if he ever wants to further his career at this club or any other he'd better be professional and do his job. Okay?

I would take £30m for Shaw, as long as it was reinvested into the squad. That is how we can develop as a squad without over stretching financially. Its not selling the family silver its a case of getting a very large some of money, with which to invest and improve further.

It hasn't quite worked at Spurs because they changed too much to soon but at the start of the season, they were a lot of peoples favourites to win the league because of what they had spent and who they had bought. We could buy four £8m players or various conetations on that for about £32m meaning our only spending this summer would be £2m. Our squad would improve overall and we wouldn't have spent much at all.

Really?

I don't believe for one minute that Shaw will suddenly turn into a troublemaker if he is thwarted (if indeed he has any intention of leaving, which I don't believe). He is aware that he owes Saints a lot and that he will get other offers in the future. If the club reject any offers (if they even exist), I am sure he will carry on playing as usual.
