Adam Blackmore on Twitter pouring a generous helping of sceptical sauce over everything. Claims story is the same as the Ian Ladyman Daily Mail story from last week, nothing new aside from Moyse sacking.

I suppose the same could be said for any story of Shaw leaving, don't think it's to be disregarded on the grounds of "someone's already said Shaw would leave". Plus, the Guardian is different to the Mail.

The key thing will be Shaw himself. If he wants to go, if his family want him to or whatever, then all the club can really do is get the most money possible for him. There is no point having a player around who doesn't want to play for the club, and would rather be at a 'bigger' club. It would be disappointing as I would hope he would stick around with the club a bit longer after what the club, and the coaches have done for his development. But, it is up to him, and £30m would be good money for him.

He's signed a long-term contract, if we want him to stay he doesn't have any choice. He will have to be professional and suck it up.

Not that I'm totally convinced, but it's another source. Might be that it's all ultimately coming from United of course (and the article implies as much). Another denial from Shaw or Southampton wouldn't go amiss.

Hey, same team fella, I'm with you on this. However there are a few wrinkles in the story here.

- Unknown new United manager. Would they spunk 30m and 100k p/w over 5 years on a player that may not be wanted by a new manager?
- In addition to that, would Luke commit to a club in difficulty with no clear direction?
- Insistence of Freddie Kruger that we're not interested in selling.
- Still no direct information, all unnamed sources still.
- Salary seems ludicrous.

This is the most direct, reliable talk yet, however it still seems 'off' somehow. One for the 'wait and see' pile.

Some players develop and grow so quickly that there will always be the spectre of a big club trying to entice them away, that's just the facts of life for a club like ours...there will always be someone richer that can offer more to a player.

Well, Evra is leaving at the end of the season, I think any manager would rather have Shaw in than just Buttner. The direction of the club is pretty clear if this is true: they're spending a ****-tonne of money to improve their squad. Unless we keep players like Shaw, and United continue to stagnate (pretty unlikely), they're always going to be a more attractive club than we are.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, more Blackmore's comments. There are a few things that don't add up (of course, things like whether Luke would commit to a club without direction etc etc would all be moot if the £100k salary is true) but I suppose we'll see. I figure most new managers wouldn't mind having a player like Luke dropped on their lap.

I see that, however all the managers linked to the post are from overseas and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they might have their own, more complete out of the box, players in mind to rebuild the squad. I mean isn't that the reason they are spending so much? That the squad needs major rebuilding and they need a manager in there who can build them a new dynasty?

I'm not sure. Of our stars, I feel like he's by far the most likely to be out, however there may be a ways to go on this yet and I'm not certain as to whether this story is significant or not.

Well the only one who seems available is van Gaal and he's stuck with the Dutch team until after the world cup. They can't really afford to wait that long (and it's probable that they would be discussing signings with him before he officially takes over of course).

How do you know Evra is leaving at the end of the season? And according to the article you posted, he's going to act as a mentor to Shaw.

Would make the new administration look pretty ****ty though, trumpeting about how we don't need to sell and then flogging the current crown jewel of the academy. I imagine a fair few would be pissed.

I don't see it like this at all. Saying we don't need to sell doesn't mean we won't sell. It just means that we are getting value for money with a transfer that adds £30m to whatever pot there already was. We already know we need 3 or 4 top players to add plus a few squad players as well possibly and if getting £30m for one player means we can improve the squad then it is sensible. £30m is probably the most we will ever get so I don't see a problem here.

If the 100k pw is true Luke would be insane not to take it.

That's irrelevant really. He is not in a position to do that unless we accept an offer for him.

Since when does posting an article mean you agree with every word in it?

His contract runs out at the end of the season, when he'll be 33, do you really think he'll be there next year?
