Here we go again, people saying this would have happened on the the basis of pure speculation. I was confident Hughton would have kept us up and neither of us can ever be proved right or wrong. Let's hope Neil can keep us up too.

I know you're not looking for an argument and I don't want to start one here but there definitely have been other variables such as Adams not having so many injured players and having the full backing of the crowd. But as has been said now Hughton isn't the manager of Norwich anymore and it is is best if we support the team rather than wondering what may/may not have happened if we had done things differently - we will never know.

Hughton struggled to motivate the players, I've heard from someone who knows Johnson a bit that to a man the players were glad to see the back of Hughton, which implies to me that the it came more from the players than the fans, although they didn't do CH any favours. Another interesting thing I heard was that Basson has struggled to train much this season due to his knees and has done mostly conditioning, would explain his poor season.

Once this season is done, if we stay up the national media will use it as evidence that Hughton was doing a good job, whereas the feeling in norfolk will likely be that Adams was the one who had the effect and saved us.
If we go down then the media will say its because we sacked Hughton and the Carrow road opinion will be that Hughton took us down and Adams didn't have a chance.

Not heard any suggestions of the former from the media or the public. But the latter I have already seen banded around these forums quite frequently. As for what you say about Johnson I doubt your 'source' is right because from what I've heard the players were genuinely shocked to see Hughton get the boot.

It's hard to take that sort of thing at face value. They are always going to give the media spiel, even after Hughton was sacked. It's just good practice from a PR point of view. For me, the way the WBA game went was simply so awful that something had to happen. Maybe the players still backed Hughton, maybe they didn't, but it was clear he didn't have them up for the fight. Not that it matters anyway but normally when Hughton needed a result he got it which would suggest he could get the players up for a fight and that is why I am adamant he would have kept us up but as you say (and indeed I also said earlier) that after Brom defeat and the toxic atmosphere his position was untenable - I suspect he lost his job as much for losing support of many fans as he did for the football.
