The problem is we have been whimpering along for almost a whole season now and we don't seem to have much fight in us. Sad but true. I have formed and opinion of CH's management now. It was almost an air of supremacy against the lower sides, in which we were ****. Some on here were quite happy with it and even found merit in it but at the end of the day we still might finish bottom of the league. Doesn't quite add up does it? Also, I see some people heralding the results today as "not that bad" hello?? What planet are you on?? Jesus, let's have a bit of perspective shall we.
I still think it's only going to take one win to get us safe, and surely, surely we're due some luck? Since Jussi Jaaskelainen dropped that cross in the home game against West Ham, when have we actually had something go our way? Since then, we've not had a penalty, or a freak defensive error, or a red card in a tight game, I can't even remember a player getting a random injury (pulled hammy, etc) against us! Hopefully Neil Adams more positive approach will have us around the opposition penalty area a bit more, which might lead to a bit of luck. Unfortunately we've got three of the biggest clubs in the league to face. Beginning to think the board pulled the trigger a week too late, or a month too early. Adams' approach would have been better suited to the WBA game at home, and given him two reasonable chances at 3 points. Meanwhile Hughton's defensive set-up may have worked in the games we have left. Hopefully we'll scrape a win sooner rather than later and I'll be left feeling foolish.
Ok, i think we are going to get turned over tomorrow, but that might be exactly what we need to happen. If Liverpool beat us i cant see jose gambling their CL chances by putting all his chips on the liverpool game any more. Hence a liverpool win is likely or even a draw. That leaves chelsea with either an impossible 8 points to get from 2, or 6 from 2 with a goal difference swing of at least 11. Basically it seems highly likely that if liverpool beat us tomorrow chelsea won't have anything realistic to play for against us. Man U will hopefully beat Everton tomorrow, which coupled with man city beating them should give arsenal the cushion they need to put all their focus on the approaching FA cup final. And man u surely don't fancy overtaking spurs for the poisoned chalice of Europa? Their superior goal difference means they cant afford to be on level points with spurs without jumping ahead of them. Our game may be the first time this becomes an apparent issue for them to deal with. So yes we are awful. And Liverpool probably will cut us to pieces. But worry not about our awfulness, because the 3 teams after today will all have a great motivation one way or the other to throw the points on offer to us, much like a fat and well fed king would throw a measly useless chicken bone to a mangy decrepid old dog. (thats us!)
