I discussed pretty much that exact scenario with my Mrs last night. I enthusiastically claimed that I think 34 points could well be enough to which she replied "We're ****, on what planet are we going to get 34 points?!?"

Stevo - indeed she does have a point given last Saturday
, but what if we were on 31 points going into the last game? Beating Chelsea would do it, and I'd have a few bob on it as well.If Norwich lose at Fulham this weekend, I doubt they'll get any more points than they've got now. Maybe an unlikely point against one of the big boys in their last 4 games will put them on 33 at the finish.
With Sunderland's next three fixtures against Everton, Man City and Chelsea before we play them, we could kill them off ourselves in a fortnights time.
It could be down to catching Fulham over the last couple of games.
They've got Stoke away and a last game against Pulis's mob - that's not going to be a cakewalk. I've given them 34 points on my latest go on the predictor - all very tight given they're the only team with an inferior goal difference to us at the mo.
On the other hand, if Norwich do manage to beat Fulham on Saturday, we're ****ed and the current bottom three will go down.

I don't need that sort of optimism. I started my relegation grieving on Saturday about 2.35pm (when I saw the team). I've got enough of a problem trying to deal with the obvious insanity that has set in as I'm convinced we'll get something on Saturday without you and WOL adding to it.

I tend to agree with Stevoldinho's missus.
I have lost count of the amount of 'must win' games we have unceremoniously stuffed up in very recent history. I fail to see any conceivable scenario in which we achieve 34 points in this season. If we had shown even the smallest semblence of unity, team spirit and belief against Palace I would be hoping for a miracle. As it is I have already begun grieving. I would love to be proven wrong but it would, frankly, have to involve a turn around of astronomic proportions unlike anything I have ever witnessed. Such skant likelihoods placed on the shoulders of a team who have just lost 3-0 AT HOME in MUST WIN game against PALACE..... Goodbye Gary...
The escape scenario looks nice on paper, but I would be absolutely stunned if we picked up 8 points!
Its not over until its mathematically impossible and all you can do now is try and win all your remaining games and hope norwich lose all theirs. Its out of cardiffs hands now and in norwich's so there is more pressure at their door. It will be a big ask but not impossible yet. you could do with fulham not putting in a late bid to be honest as they could easily leap frog over cardiff and norwich and send you both down...

Great win for Chelsea last night.
If we were within a point or 2 then the run in would be a positive. We've almost certainly left ourselves far too much to do. There is the possibility we remember how to defend as a team all of a sudden and give ourselves a chance though.........
Naaahh....Stevo's missus has got it right. we'll only start winning games again when it doesn't matter. it's been like that for 50 odd years, ...why would it change now. I'm hopeful of a good Championship season and a hop back up, better equipped and stable. Failing that, I'll have to be satisfied by a season in the Holy Land..........although, I tend to Aber's thinking that the Holy Land ain't so wonderful.
It's hard to argue that the Championship in general is a more enjoyable experience, as Sparks mentioned a few weeks back though I'd have been ecstatic if we had survived.
Even if City need 4 points v Chelsea there'll be some deluded fans who think City could escape

I'll tell you now - if we get anything at all from what I regard as our most difficult game of the five at St. Marys, we'll get more than that. I even expect us to beat Chelsea on the last day to do it. You heard it hear first.
I'll bump the thread back up on May 11th so you can all grovel in apology - and I'll expect Stevo's missus to put in an appearance as well.......

Seems we are happy enough to accept other teams( who were doing terrible) can put a few games together, but not accepting of the possibility of us doing it.
Hardly surprising that confidence is shot in all fairness, but if others can do it i guess so can we, if we look to the best case scenario.
Nothing much to lose for us now, we are all but down, that could be a good thing sometimes.

Look - this is football, any thing is possible, not over til the fat lady sings, etc, etc, etc.
Arguments such as the above are the ONLY arguments that could be made for us right now.
In pure footballing terms, based on logic and experience of this year, it is impossible to make an argument for us. The arguments against us surviving are countless.
In the entire season, we have not won 2 consecutive games. We have been comfortably beaten at home by most of the teams around us. We have a dividied fanbase, a rookie manager (in PL terms) and are 7 points from survival. Since the first week of the season we have not beaten a team in the top half of the table (3 of our remaining opponents are in the top half) whilst all the teams around us have been picking up surprise victories. Our team last week, in a MUST WIN game, showed the least bottle I have EVER seen from a Cardiff team. I have seen division 3 City teams play with more belief and unity than we played with last week, in a do or die fixtures.
Obviously nobody knows, but I would put safe money that half of our squad are already in their agents' ears looking for a club for next season.They are all on th e beach already, and Im sorry I dont care how many of them say they are in it together and still fighting, the evidence on the pitch suggests the opposite.
I am all for fighting talk, and I feel awful for saying it, and I will still support us next season wherever we are. But I would consider it one of the most ridiculous turn arounds ever if we stay up this season. I have already reached the acceptance stage - deep down i reached it after the hull debacle...
