Vito Mannone already being mentioned by the fairly reliable Young Guns blog as the keeper Leeds are pursuing to replace Schmeichel.

This guy's pretty much a full time Arsenal journalist, he's not in the business of making up transfer gossip.

Young and promising maybe but we were always a stepping stone for him. Let's take the money and get a more experienced keeper(s) in.

If not we'll be playing drop back goalies this season!!!

He looks good, but I do remember him making a few mistakes whilst playing for them. I'd rather us keep Kasper for a season, than risk of, lets be honest, an unproven keeper like Mannone.

I'd be annoyed if it were only a loan deal. Just wanted to throw that out there.

There's no way you'd get him on a permanent, he recently signed a new five year deal at Arsenal.

From what we've heard, he's not available on loan either, as they're getting rid of Almunia and moving Mannone up to No.3.

If you did get him, you'd need a good No.2, we played him every time he was injury free and he still only managed 10 games.

not too worried about losing schmichael, avearge keeper made great by his name. excellent shot stopper but thats about it, cant command his box at all

i will be worried however if we dont replace him with quality like westwood. if we can get westwood on a free and 1.5 mil-ish for kasper that is great business. altho we'l probs end up with some rubbish like brown

anyway we cant moan, it was obvious kasper was not going to sign a contract extension and we were just a stepping stone to leicester hahaha. we would have just lost him for free next summer like becks killa and BJ, getting a fee for him is best as long as we do replace with an equally good or better keeper, if not we are going backwards

come on bates, get westwood on the blower and give himn a decent contract!

Westwood? Pfffffft. He'll be in the premier league next season. Not wasting time in the championship.

Expect don vito to be injured for most of the season. If i were you i wouldn't go after someone so injury prone.

By the way, the Yorkshire Post have reported we've held 'tentative' talks with Keiren Westwood, which suggests that his so-called pre-contract with Sunderland either doesn't exist or isn't worth the paper it's written on. We're still in with a chance, though I'd say it's unlikely. Then again, the whole Schmeichel affair smacks of us having someone in the background who we've managed to convince to join.

I would agree. Can't believe we would make a statement without having someone "Almost" signed. I think kasper will get better and better though, good luck to him, except when he's playing us!

Donald, this is all a close call. On the onehand, it appears the club were always going to struggle to keep Kasper. But on the other, why would they let him go so close to the start of the season, unless they've already got a replacement lined up?

Time will tell, but let's hope for some good news in the next day or so.

The Yorkshire Post site is claiming that:

    1. The Kasper deal is worth £1.5m.
    2. We've been in talks with Westwood since the last weeks of last season.
    3. We're looking to "step up" our bid.

All this is leading me to read more into Larry's statement that the deal is "in the best interests of the club". As Boggers said, lets hope for good news.

Lee Camp also mentioned in the YEP, he would be a quality replacement

Tomasz Kuszczak being linked in The Times. Thought he was alright at West Brom, but he's looked pretty shakey whenever i've seen him for the scum. Other reports are suggesting he's about to sign for West Brom though.

Mail saying Leicester were in for Josh Lillis and Chris Kirkland, I guess they now count as players we could be after.

As there's talk of Villa bidding £3.5m for him and he's regarded as probably the best keeper outside the Premier League, I wouldn't hold your breath.
