TSS, and Other Mods, I think we've made a mistake. The Jayrod thread has been closed solely due to one idiot winding a few Saints fans up. Ok some people bit and had a go back but for goodness sake, the thread was an opportunity for Saints fans to express their disappointment at the injury to such a popular player who was possibly on the verge of a trip to the World Cup - every players dream.

Have a read through at how many opposing fans came on and posted a polite, appreciative message about Jayrod. Then, one alleged united fan comes on and winds some people up on a very sensitive subject and the thread is closed rather than the united fan being moved on.

I don't criticise the mods because you have a thankless task (this post proves that), however on this occasion, I feel strong enough to post this and allow us Saints fans to post our messages of regret and support for a much loved, hard working young professional who epitomises everything good about our club and our game. Don't let the one person who epitomises everything wrong about fans win.

Please find away to re-open the thread and just remove his posts and him from it. I'm sure the rest will continue to show respect to Jayrod and other posters.

Still not got over the disappointment of JRods injury mostly for him but also it's taken the gloss off the final stages of the season
On the flip side it does create a real opportunity for someone to step up and make a claim for a first team place whether that be Gaston, Big Sam or Reedy etc.
I can't see MP changing his formation or tactics so who will slot into the gap?
 
Completely agree and have said similar to TSS in private. Apologies for my part in biting a little (it was late and there may have been beer involved), but I was merely trying to (I thought with a bit of humour) put the United fan in his place somewhat. Plus yes, I felt a little defensive about JRod. I certainly had no intention to engage any further.

Likewise, not a criticism, I think our board is 'modded' exceptionally well (particularly when making a rare foray to other teams boards, there's some terrible mods), but I don't get closing that thread at all.
 
This is not for the squeamish, but here is a video of the surgery used to reconstruct an ACL by grafting part if the patient's own patellar tendon (the tendon which holds the kneecap in place). I would imagine this is what Jay is about to undergo, so you can see why the recovery time is so long.

When you consider what the poster said and did, it was obviously his post was designed to get a response, he started with blasphemy and continued with a statement that could possibly be incorrect, Jay Rod has a serious injury which could be career threatening. As usual an angry response by someone was inevitable, because we have many people that actually care about their players as individuals, as well as for being team members. Why the poster went off the rails when he got the response he desired is unclear, but totally out of order, we welcome guests that post sensibly, this response was just out of order in my opinion. Closing the thread prevented an escalation, it is obvious that this particlar poster is no longer welcome on this site. We should be allowed to make our feelings made about our own players without outside interference but the majority have been on the same wavelength and their contribution is welcome and we thank them for it. Rant over.
 
As an aside, I actually thought the point I raised had some relevance and was worth discussing - do you think that fans of so called "smaller clubs" have a greater emotional attachment to players than the larger clubs more trigger-happy stance to those that don't immediately make the grade?
 
Thanks for that chilco, just what I love to see come up on my screen. Although it is amazing what they can do. Having ruptured my ACL back in 2009 during a game of football (I went one way and my knee decided to go the other) I been through a similar procedure, having part of my hamstring muscle pulled through, drilled and screwed/plugged in place to form a new ACL.

As soon as Rodriguez went down I thought that's his ACL gone and god did I wince when I saw it. Hate seeing that sort of injury as I can feel the sort of pain they would be in. Worst thing about those sort of injuries is the not knowing instantly how serious it is (for example with a broken ankle/leg, you can usually physically see it). I am sure his care and rehabilitation will be a lot better and more instense than mine :laugh: was. Its the long slow process of getting the knee to bend again and work in the new ligament.
 
Chilco do you know if using the patellar tendon cause future instability with the knee? That tendon seems like it would be quite important. Ages ago a friend had this surgery but they used a cadaver ACL. It never quite came back to 100% and she stopped playing football. At that time they were also trying plastic tendons as well. Hopefully this op has improved over the years
 
Not so long ago a snapped ACL was game over, literally. The fact that it's now a six(ish) month recovery is testament to the remarkable advances made in medical practice.

It can cause a lot of pain due to them taking a bit of bone from the kneecap which has the tendon attached to it (because bone will graft together whereas if they took just the tendon they have to thread it through the bone and attach it with a screw or something). I think (with my very limited knowledge) for a professional though it's probably the best way to go. Yes I was just looking at that to answer MISaints' question! Apparently there is more pain following surgery, as they have basically aggravated the whole injury by ripping extra bits out, but apart from the possibility of tendinitis there are few long-term problems.

I find that I have a greater emotional attachment to players than I ever had before. I think it was because we nearly lost the club...I feel a link to every player that has been part of our rise back up the leagues. It also explains our gratitude and affection for Nigel. I love all our team and want the best for them....I feel for Jay and felt Lambert's joy when he played for England. Am I alone or do some of you feel a greater relationship with our team.

I wrote something on another thread about this sort of thing. In all my time as a football fan, I have never known a team like this one. To quote myself (in case you should miss it:emoticon-0105-wink:)

"One thing that any Saints player will come to realise (if they don't already) is that never in their career will they play in a TEAM like this one. They all seem to be cast from the same mould. There is genuine respect, they play for each other and they seem to care about each other. They will never experience this same togetherness at another club.

I hope they understand this and appreciate this. They could earn more money elsewhere, true, although they will still earn enough here not to have to work again; they may win more trophies elsewhere, although this is no longer the 'given' that it once was; but they will never have the opportunity to play in a team that has worked its way up from the depths with the same core of players and a shared ethos.

They are lucky to be here and we are lucky to have them. In this important respect Man Utd or any other team will always be a second best."

No we reacted to the fact that one of our best players sustained a serious career threatening injury. We don't appreciate your views on here, I could be wrong I guess you are a classic Manure supporter who lives in Harpenden or somewhere similar, you don't say in your information box?
