Not bad... it's brilliant when you think our midfield could be Malbranque meyler, colback Elmo. :)

Put it this way, I'm on £11/hr as a fitter. If my company brought in another fitter on say £16/hr, how the **** do you think that would make me feel?

If you were a really good fitter and you were offered double your current salary would you give a **** how your colleagues felt?

I like N`zog but if he is not going take a decent salary offer then we should move on.

we could get Downing for 12-14m and pay him less than 60k a week

This is where SAFC are in what Geoff Boycott would describe as the ‘corridor of uncertainty'.

Whether we think it is morally correct to pay a man 60k per week to kick a football around or not, the simple fact is that in order to get these players to come we are going got have to pay it. Either that or we accept our lot and go for players just below this threshold. Do we become players or spectators in the EPL.

I obviously want us to become players but I am pragmatic enough to realise this cannot be at the risk of bankrupting the club in the long term. I think we will encourage a bigger crowd if the football on show is of a higher standard but to do that, we either need the likes of N'Zogbia and 3 or 4 others like him, or we find another 3 or 4 local lads via the Academy system.

Whatever the outcome, we have to choose where and what we want to be going forward.

For what it’s worth, I am appalled at the wages footballers are paid but that’s the market we are into. I wish the authorities would act to stop the greed and ripping off of clubs and fans but I don’t want to take a lone stance on the moral high ground and see the club struggle because of that either.

Thats the problem mate. We couldnt get Downing now at all, just like we couldnt get Johnson now either. Both want and expect to play in a European competition and be regulars for England and we cannot offer either as witnessed by Bent. Suddenly, the exact same player he was for us is an England regular while at Villa but didnt get a sniff while banging goals in for us.

N'Zogbia isnt good enough for the top 4 or 5 clubs IMO but he would be a game changing player for us. The same can be said about Valencia at Man Utd. World beater for Wigan but ordinary against the Barcelona's of this world. He isnt good enough to be a Champions League player but he too would be outstanding for us.

At least you're honest, we can't blame Zogs for wanting as much money as he can get his hands on. The whole system is ****ed and has been since Sky cast it's grip upon the game. We have Mr Murdoch to thank for that. This combined with the abolishment of the salary cap in the 60's has snowballed to ****ing horrendous proportions. The thing is, if we don't compete with the Real Madrid's, Barcelona's and Milan's of this world, all our homegrown talent would bugger off abroad so we'd be ****ed anyway.

    Sucks to be British :(

Football is in a total mess and I'm totally against the ridiculous wages paid to players but in today's market £60,000 isn't a massive amount for a top player. George McCartney is on £40,000 a week!!! N'Zogbia would be the first name on the teamsheet pretty much and Gyan will still be earning more than him.

I trust Quinn and Short with the finances so hopefully they can get rid of the deadwood Nos, McCartney etc and free up wages to buy quality like N'Zogbia.

IM sure I heard Gyan & Bent were on 60k per week, but this could just be as our "Marquee players". If so, the forgoing of the signing on fee in exchange for wages sounds good to me.

I hate sounding like a nob in moments such as these, with the 'I heard from a friend of a friend crap,' but.......with my wife thinking I'm a nob most of the time anyway, I figure what the hell. My brother in law is a regional director for a large international bank and part of his job is to give the okay on large transfers of money from one bank to another and he told me months ago that he had it on good authority from a colleague that Gyan was earning 50k per week (as it was going through their bank). Mind you he is a mag season ticket holder in the posh boxes, so whether or not he's lying or not I don't know, but overall despite his mag links he's a good lad and I figuered if he was lying he would have said something ridiculous like 80k per week or something.

50-60k is our limit I think, but only to one or two of our talismanic, marquee players. Mind you this is all just guesswork.

I'll take you at face value, and say no way will we pay Zog 10k more than Gyan, as then we'd probably have to increase Gyan's salary as well.

I guess, sooner or later, we'll need to start paying, and i bet you Jordan's new, and completely pointless new deal was worth a fair bit a week, maybe he's been moved on to free some wages up..
