Score 4 goals and don't let them score is a good plan...perhaps we should stick with that one :)

I actually believe we can get something. They looked shaky at the back when Arsenal put them under pressure in the second half.

Lets hope he has a good World Cup for Uruguay, Either It'll give him the confidence to claim a starting place with us or if (for wahtever reason) he goes he will command a bigger price tag.
    Sorry couldn't resist this clip.

The first one is a question, not a statement. I never said you said we didn't have a plan B, I asked if you would moan when we don't (as several have). It wasn't patronizing and it wasn't a cheap shot; it was a question. If you want more players with the same top level pressing and chasing, then that's what you'll have on the bench... Gaston gives something different (although he does do more of it than you suggest).

If you re-read my post and your bit about 12m for Gaston, I say almost the same thing when I talked about budgets and MP maybe deciding to bring someone else in.

On the Clyne/Chambers thing, are you really hypothesizing facts for your argument. You and I have no-idea what the two players next contracts will be and anyway, I'm talking now. You harped on about having an expensive player on the bench, which suggests that we shouldn't have them on the bench. If someone is keeping them out the team, then that's where they will be.

If your last statement about consistency is aimed at me, where have I said our season hasn't panned out as well as expected. I have continually said it has been a good season and as I expected.

Just finally, I love the way I am patronizing, and the sentence you write before that starts with "Wow, where to even start" Perhaps we are very much alike eh?

Re: Clyne/Chambers - What else am I supposed to do with such a silly question in the first place? It didn't even deserve an answer, so I shouldn't have even bothered.

Re: Keeping Gaston out of the team - Unfortunately, I think Gaston keeps himself out of the team. I really do. It's not a personal thing, like I said, I just don't think he is willing/able to adapt to the system Pochettino wants to play.

Re: Consistency - No, that wasn't aimed at you. It was aimed at the general "Gaston love-in" that was occurring on these pages. It seems to me if he does one good thing, people cling to it and make him out to be this amazing born-again world-beater. People forget about his attitude and about the fact that he wanted to quit earlier in the season. However, other players, the Steve Davis types of this world play an absolute blinder every week, but generally only get a mention if they make an error etc. Why don't we ever have a Steve Davis "love-in"? Haha!!

Re: Our "likeness" to each other - This may very well be true my friend, and if it is, I'm so sorry!! You deserve better than that!!

What's this about Gaston's attitude and wanting to quit? Did I miss something?

I honestly believe that sometimes he is told not to chase back, so when our other players win it back, he's in space to receive the ball and link the midfield to the attack.

Gaston is a square peg in a round hole for us. He seems to be improving, which is fair enough, but I would definitely sell him if it guaranteed someone like Holtby coming in. There are just better players than him around. It's nothing to do with his wages or transfer fee. I can't think of a game apart from villa last season where he has effected the outcome. I just don't think he's suited to the premier league at this moment in time, and he isn't getting enough game time to adjust. If we keep him he needs to start coming on for more minutes and trying to improve. I will be happy to admit it if he proves me wrong though.

Look, if you really want to know the truth, well then... ...I just can't forgive him for the corn-rows. Ever. I'm really sorry, I've tried so damned hard to get over it, but it's just not going to happen. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am. Why did he have to do it? Why??!!!

Or Newcastle at home last season, or Arsenal at home last season or Norwich this season. I still throw that home game v Sunderland last year when he was our only decent player. I would say that in each if his appearances this side if Christmas he has been looking good and improving.

I just don't understand why some people can't see the value of a player like that in the squad. It has been unfortunate and good that he has not got a run in the side; it's how well we be done this season.

Look, we all know he has not been consistent, but he's also not had a run in the team for various reasons. He is a huge talent who hasn't produces the goods regularly for us yet. He certainly has done more than those that seem not to be keen on him suggest.

Some people see a value, others don't.

It is quite a strange situation for a player to be in really. My major concern is that it's not just our style he can't fit in with - but the English game. Many, many technically gifted players have struggled with the hustle and bustle of the premier league. He just needs to get the balance right between when to try the hard ball and when to keep it simple. I will admit that before he got injured in that Sunderland game I thoug the was sublime, and since then he has hardly played.

Like I said before - i do think he is talented and hope he does start to integrate more but I'm not sure if he will at this point. There will come a time when pochettino will think 'he isn't ever going to be the player I want him to be.' Whether it's this summer remains to be seen. Let's face it, a lot of people on here thought Lallana might not be up to the premier league at the start of the season (despite a few of us arguing his case), and look how that turned out!

I don't like him much as a player but that won't surprise you:emoticon-0105-wink: I don't think he's lazy, just not good at the mundane things that have to be done when not in possession. I would also agree that he occasionally does fantastic things. But I think that one of the reasons they are so memorable is because they are so occasional.

He looks world class for about 5 minutes and then just disappears.

However, to be fair to him, he generally is only given time when we are struggling, so it is very difficult for him to make an impression. I also think that because he doesn't play that often when he does come on he is trying to do the spectacular when a simple lay-off might be more appropriate.

Maybe now is the time to give him a full game to see how he gets on. Just don't drop Cork:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I agree with you Lff. I just get frustrated when people say he doesn't try, he doesn't track back, etc, etc. He does. He's just not the same as others that's all. I also get wound up by the signing on fee comments too.
