I am not too happy about this response, seems to imply that Players are cheats.

Ha ha. Players cheat all the time. Even if the simple thing of putting their hand up to claim a throw. I'd even go as far as to say that ALL players cheat.

And he is right , a referee can't change a decision based on what a player says. The appealing etc is bad enough as it is, you would just open the floodgates. That said I still don't know why someone watching TV pictures can't have a quick word in the ear.
 
Due to the cock up Chamberlain got away with it. He deserved his sending off because for all he knew he was stopping a goal. The ball travelled too far a distance for a reaction stop. If he was rightly awarded the card during the game it would have never been rescinded.

It was going wide. It can't be a red because it has to be for denying a goal or clear goal scoring opportunity. Nothing in the rules about a red card because a player thought he was stopping a goal. <doh>

Thats an interesting point but I still don't think that it would have been rescinded if Ox had been sent off.
