What competition does he have? As a British player ? What is so stunning at that goal? Good spot by Rooney but come on it was there to be hit
We'll have to agree to disagree mate. I can't agree that Rooney hasn't fulfilled his potential when he's now 3rd on Utd's all time goal scoring list and just 12 goals away from being England's all time leading goal scorer. Add to that his assists and work rate, he is the complete player. Also, his contract his his fault. We'd all take it!
I'd love a fraction of his contract I honestly think that Rooney hasn't been helped by AF consistently playing him out of position and also he has being playing in a pretty average (by their standards) Utd team.
Ibrahimovic is world class and consistently produces at the top level. Rooney has world class ability but is inconsistent and hasn't done it for England for a long time. Half his problem is that he has often been played in roles that don't necessarily suit him. I really think he'd be at his best as an attacking central midfielder as he can dominate from such a role with his range of passing and score plenty Lampard-style. I doubt England would use him in such a way as they have to accommodate Gerrard who would be playmaker from a more withdrawn role so he'll be messed about with depending on who else is in the side...
Col, how do you justify his poor performances at all major tournaments with England (except maybe the first Euros)?
Rooney have more assist to a goal than any other player in the championsleague this season. Overrated...yep!
Id also love to see Rooney playing the old Scholes role as an attacking midfielder. Liverpool are current playing Gerard as a DCM and I can't see why Rooney couldn't play as an ACM for England and Utd
By far Gerrard would be my choice Rooneys goal great vision but its a goal kick freak type Defender wrong side and the hint of a nudge by the most overrated player in Europe IMO Hides in too many games IMO
Paul.............you have come out with some pretty bizarre statements in your time, but to say that Rooney hides in too many games is quite simply laughable. Gerrard has been a fantastic player, but I think his generation was a little before Rooney's prime, which should be the next 2-3 years imo. You're so predictable............if Rooney was ANY other nationality, particularly French, you would be exploding in your pants over that goal and the player in general,
The last World Cup was when he was waiting for personal **** to hit the fan and it must have effected him as he looked so unbelievably poor. Fitness issues have also affected his England displays along with being played out of position at times. I really hope he turns it on in Brazil.
If this English team get their sh•te together they could be more than a handful for anybody. IF.
It's a great opportunists goal Agree I don't join in with the trend but honestly I do not believe Rooney is world class ... He was no doubt but has slipped a bit and never achieved what we all thought he would be He certainly isn't worth the money so that adds to my opinion Hope he presses on from this however and has a great World Cup I think Sturridge is currently top British striker
Especially as they are going in completely under the radar. IF Roy plays the right players in the right positions and IF we get off to a good start, you never know. Anyway........I'm off for the celebratory Merlot. All the best mate.
Honestly? I don't think it is. He's whacked it half-volley over the Keepers head. Its not really that hard to do TBH. There are far better goals scored weekly in the Prem. Still, a very good goal from a very good player. Not a World class one. Sorry COL.
I think Sturridge is currently top British striker
You're way off DT The top British striker is none other than Bobbyyyyyy Zamoraaaaaaaaa
I didn't think it was that great, it bounced before even going in- I can't imagine he intended that. The keeper made a hash of things too
Anyway........I'm off for the celebratory Merlot. All the best mate.
Take her easy now Col. One glass not the bottle. You might end up running the line again tomorrow morning. BTW, a like a nice glass of red wine. Has to be French for me.
I don't think that's possible mate. Just wait a couple of months and the Press and punters will whip it up to fever pitch like they do every single time. England's Achilles heel has always been over-expectation. England are a very good side and more or less always have been. But they're not a top side. Haven't been so for nigh on half a Century. If people could modify their expectations and the Press tone it down a bit, then England have a chance of doing really well, maybe even getting to the last four. But if its the usual hyped-up circus then they're destined to freeze with the weight of unfair expectation weighing heavily on their shoulders. That's also the reason I think Rooney never shows up in Tournaments as it happens. The poor bloke is petrified along with the rest of his team mates.
Yes, a great opportunist goal, but the shot could just have easily missed the net or have been saved.
