Not a fan of my current one then? <whistle>

That forum was a good laugh, haven't been on since they scandalously took down the chat box.. Holding out for Swansea to be relegated and pop back on for a Swansea + Matthew double meltdown <cheers>

Liverpool supporters certainly haven't done the victims of Hillsbrough any favours over the years with the way they have behaved, not just at Heysel, but when they charged the gate in Athens at the last CL final they where at. You would have thought of all clubs, that Liverpool supporters would realise the potential repercussions of forcing your way into a ground without a ticket. I am not slating all Liverpool fans for this, as I'm sure there are plenty of well behaved law abiding citizens who support Liverpool, but they do historically have more idiots than any other club in England:biggrin:

Liverpool fans - Ever since they beat us on sunday, all i've heard from them is they will win the league this season and take the piss out of David Moyes as well.

Oh dear...you boys get thrashed and the old Hillsborough opinions pop up pretty quickly eh <doh> I'm glad our board doesn't allow such casual comments on other tradegies without bans being issued...probably says a lot more about the relative civility of both sets of fans don't you think <ok>

I didn't start the comments, I was just giving my opinion to another poster about his post. I certainly don't think all Liverpool fans are hooligans, nor do I think any of the victims of Hillsbrough where in anyway to blame. I just don't think some Liverpool fans have done the victims of Hillsbrough any favours by the way they have behaved over the years. This is something all Liverpool fans are in delusion about, they love to bang on when they think they've been wronged, yet totally ignore there own terrible behaviour throughout history.

There's something about a certain number of United fans who consistently keep having to make reference to both Hysel and Hillsborough.

Not at all lad, those of us who bother to actually go to games know the dangers of travelling to European away ties (whoever you support). I was at Athens btw and it was chaos, it takes a bit of organising to get tens of thousands of people in and out of a stadium and on that night the Greeks decided not to trouble themselves to organise a thing. People were gaining access to the stadium by waving bloody maps in the general direction of security personnel whilst others with genuine tickets were being turned away....do you really think a United fan or a Chelsea fan who'd paid a small fortune for a genuine ticket would just walk away timidly if they were refused entry? If you believe that I suggest you are even more stupid than your comments suggest:

The Football Supporters Federation (FSF) has produced a comprehensive 200-page dossier detailing serious failings that led to mayhem at the Olympic Stadium.

The FSF study pinpoints serious failings on the part of the governing body including:

Infrastructure problems with difficulties accessing the stadium, with no turnstiles or counters to stop those with rogue tickets.

Uefa’s paltry ticket allocation of 17,000 to fans of Liverpool and AC Milan.

Transport mayhem with angry fans facing cancelled flights on the way home and hours of delays.

The actions of police who used tear-gas and beat fans with batons.

Dr Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the FSF, told the ECHO: “It is wrong to blame Liverpool fans for what happened.

“It is the responsibility of UEFA to organise stewarding up to an appropriate standard.

The report will be sent to Uefa, the government’s Department for Culture Media and Sport, the Home Office and British police.

The dossier has been based on eyewitness accounts of hundreds of fans who went to Athens.

It includes an account from Liverpool councillor Peter Milea, chairman of Liverpool council's ground safety advisory group, who attended the game.

Part of his account reads: “It was seven minutes before kick-off time that we got to a police barricade.

“When some tried to go up a flight of steps, the police reacted with batons and pepper gas. People were in tears as a result.”

So you're saying the FSF are all Liverpool fans are you lad? <whistle> I can post plenty more if you want, I can post the results of those fans who sued UEFA (and won) for their handling of that night and their subsequent slander afterwards. Large groups of fans are rarely perfect as you seem to imagine they should be, however they are actually fairly easy to organise these days. The issue we have is that we are at the behest of the authorities and how they decide to handle things (or not). Ask a United fan (proper one) who went to the Ajax game a couple of years ago whether they were really responsible for the troubles pre-game as was widely reported initially or whether in reality the Dutch police were behaving like they were in league with the Amsterdam hooligans. Ask the Celtic fans the same question about their game there last year.

The funny thing is you can't even find your way to your teams home games never mind a European away game so your wisdom on the issue is hardly relevent is it <laugh> These comments always seem to arise after another United loss....coincidence that you felt the need to share your vast knowledge (again) after we thrashed you??

I'd put all this new TV technology which all the sports broadcasters are using into Room 101. I read an article the other day which said that in the world Cup England will be wearing the same colour shorts and shirts as apparently it looks better on HD TV. It made me think about teams in England and what that could mean for them - for example will a certain team who currently wear red shirts and white shorts be encouraged to change it? <whistle>

That ticket which I posted earlier was my ticket from the evening. I was there, right in the middle of it, and I remember what I saw very clearly to this day and, besides, I still have the draft notes from my evidence that I prepared forthe enquiry. I don't know who told me earlier to get my facts right; they were right.

All I remember from that night onwards is that the club and fans made no reparations towards anyone. Living in Belgium at the time I, and almost everyone else were sickened at the lack of contrition by the club. I don't remember seeing the manager or any of the players visiting Belgian or Italian hospitals after the game. I don't remember a single apology to the people of Brussels. It was most ignored by everyone wearing Liverpool colours.

And, yes, I remember Hillsboirough very well. And the reaction from the club afterwards. Yes, the Liverpool fans were badly tarred by the press for that incident but still the memories of lot of people were fresh from that night in Heysel. Yes, I have every sympathy for those and their familes who died that day at Lepping Lane but where exactly were the calls for justice for those who died at Heysel? Where were the banners in the grounds asking for justice for the people that the Liverpool supporers killed that night?

There was never any contrition by the club and never any attempts to say "Never Again" and the more that the Liverpool fans cried about justice for Hillsbrough it made their reaction to Heysel more hypocrtitical.

Yes, I do have my facts right.

How about giving us all the facts and possible repercussions of what happened and why?

Let's start with the choice of Heysel as the venue for the final, it was/is well documented that LFC objected to Uefa during a pre match visit weeks before the final that it wasn't suitable, the head of the Belgian police and the head of the Belgian FA persuaded Uefa otherwise although it later emerged that Heysel Stadium did not have a valid safety certificate.

During the pre match visit attended by representitives of both clubs, the Belgian police and Uefa the ticketing plans were discussed, LFC secretary objected to the club not being allocated the entire section behind the goal(Juve had been given the whole section behind the opposite goal)and pointed out the possibility of problems if a third of that area was housed by Juventus supporters, the objection was dismissed by Uefa on assurances made by the police and Belgian FA that it wasn't a problem.

Before the game were did you spend your day?, only asking because you might have noticed the running battles in the city centre around 5pm when the bulk of the Juventus supporters arrived, you also never mentioned the 26 stabbings the season before in Rome when our fans got stabbed, slashed and had the **** kicked out of them, this was always going to play its part in Belgium due to Juve being Italian and their ultras also being handy with knives.

If you were in the thick of it as you claim do you remember "both" sets of fans throwing pieces of crumbling concrete at each other?
The part about LFC not making visits to hospitals etc, you really think they'd have been welcomed?, you really think that would have made things better?.
Its a stain n our club that those 39 people died because of the actions of our supporters, we have felt the shame of it ever since and the decent ones amongst us were and are extremely sorry for what happened.

It really is about time people just stopped using that and Hillsborough (yes and Munich) as material for point scoring on a message board. Everyone's got loads of ammunition to wind each other up with without the need to resorting to real human tragedies - FFS there's a very good chance that people on this forum were directly affected by some of these incidents.

Just to add this isn't aimed at PMK's post (it was a decent one to hook my rant onto) though I hope he'd have sussed that anyway!
