It's not apples for apples though. You can't compare Norway and Scotland in 2014 as they are very different countries. Scotland can't go back 40 years and vote for independence and bank the cash, we are where we are and that should be where the discussion begins.

Aye, one's an oil-rich small nation and the other one is tethered to a bigger country weighed down by trillions in debt and no forward thinking.

The UK is one of the most forward thinking nations on earth and has been for centuries. We're weighed down by trillions in debt because of many things, the biggest issue being pensions. Scotland would transfer its liabilities from the rest of the UK to the Scottish taxpayer and we'd lumped with a per capita debt based on the populace/GDP whatever.... and would still honour the pensions, benefits etc that the UK promised yet, we're being told that this is forward thinking?

Aye?

I don't really think an independent Scotland is a realistic possibility.

I reckon it'll end up ~70-30 in favour of No.

Unless we can invent a time machine and go back and kill the spy who scuppered Bonnie Prince Charlie's invasion of England. London was a sitting duck but on the word of this spy, Chazza U-turned at Derby (I think) and the rest is history.

I meant about oil - I should have been clearer. That money should have been saved rather than used for redeveloping half of London. Or at least it should have been used to benefit the whole of the UK, not just one little corner of it.

If I had a time machine I'd travel back to about five minutes before you were conceived, kill yer da' and shag yer maw. Then I'd be your father and I would have raised you to be well educated and erudite. And probably gay.

Spot on Bealey, it's always a top notch history lesson when you're around <ok>

Cheers, mate.

Firstly, Edge has already stated that the oil money is gone and can't be brought back. It's not a case of what 'should' have happened. That's neither here nor there with regard to an independent Scotland.

Secondly, if you did that, I wouldn't be 'me' and therefore you wouldn't be my father.

You really do rank as one of the biggest *****s on this forum. The ***** Jacobite.

You would be you. You'd just be a manlier, brainer better looking version.

The Ayrshire **** summed up perfectly.

Well said Bealey.

No, I wouldn't.

Look guys, it looks like The ***** Jacobite doesn't know anything about human genetics <laugh>

Listen son, I may have got the brainer, manlier and better looking version a bit wrong but at least you didn't let me down on being a glorified fudge packer.
