Unfortunately teams aren't awarded bonus points for fixture comparison in December so it's a fairly meaningless stat when trying to assess improvements as when we go on a bad run that will cancel out current comparisons. There's little chance of us exceeding our points total from last year unless there's a dramatic change in team performance.
When?! We haven't won in 4 games I agree though, it's interesting to but little more. After last season's poor start we should expect to be above it and by more than one point. Last season we had an excellent Christmas period and if we do again everything will be fine but it's not an easy period to string together a run of wins.
We are not only above last year's total on the same fixtures we've also got one more point than we had then after 13 matches. On every measure we are doing better this year than last!
I've been overly kind to Avb and not classed it as a dreadful run as we drew to Utd and Everton, lost away to city and should have got a point against Newcastle. No more going easy on Avb from here onwards.
Can I request to a mod that this thread become a sticky? It would mean I don't have to fill the comments with every update just to keep the thread alive, and I think there is enough traffic?
So, if we lose to Liverpool then will be doing worse than last season - yet another reason why we have to win!
This time last year we had played 16 games and had 26 points. Everton where above us on goal difference ( no surprise there) . We have to beat Liverpool anyway but Avb can be awarded another certificate for us being better off after 16 games. SG hasn't updated the table but we're currently on 1.8 PPG which keeps Avb in a job but we can keep a note of the PPG total and send him a certificate when he's fired!I
So one point down on last seasons results. Shocking goal difference. Can no longer see any reason to keep AVB.
Hi all, Sorry for being away for so long - We've become ridiculously busy at work, and now my Boss is in the office pretty much full time! Anyway here is the latest table showing our form for the year, vs last year, PPG avg, and what we will end up with if we continue with our current PPG. I have updated the goalscorers now, with the chart looking much better now we actually are scoring goals! and as a little gift I have added Manager win ratios too.... SG
Thanks for update - so looks like AVB was sacked at one point down on the season before and Sherwood is 2 points up, not a bad effort. Hope we keep it up and Liverpool slip up somewhere as their table like this must be miles up on last years.
Haha, They have a similar table to this (it's where I got the idea) but I don't think they have the comparison part. of our remaining games, 9 are definitely winnable (assuming Ade and Pauleen can carry on scoring, and Bobby bucks his ideas up) then we have Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Any Wins there and we are right in it.

This whole thread is very like MITO's block of four thread on our forum. Oh, well, nice spreadsheets, lads! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose.
Last year I was sure that one of the three teams chasing the last spot would have a poor run-in, and all three had very good ones. Given how close the top is, I'd rather say spots 1-4 area all up for grabs between probably five or possibly six or more teams. If this is about probability, one or two will do very well, two or four will do about what you might expect, and one or two will do very poorly. But if it's about psychology, as it was last year, we can expect teams to keep pace with each other, that Man City will edge Chelsea, then Arsenal, in that order, and Liverpool will battle Spurs for fourth, with Everton and below dropping off. Assuming none of the top three lose form and current six and below teams don't challenge (not a good assumption from the POV of probability, but not a bad one from the POV of pyschology), the game against Liverpool is a six point last CL spot game.
So feeling a bit gloomy due to today's result, but still equal to last years performance, which was our best ever, and not that far beheind the leaders, and still ahead of united even though we've played like poo for most of the season. Decent chance of getting through to next round of Europa as well. Please can we start to gel soon though as even with all these good signs, it doesn't feel quite right to me.
