Newey needs to swallow his pride and re-design the car. I'm amazed the car is still tightly packaged.

Got to laugh at Daniel though, thought he was going forward when really he was going backwards.

So it can't be because of the start of this season.
Hmm, Vettel's contract is meant to run out then I think.

Sebs contract goes at the end of the 2015 season, last time he had a performance clause in that he didn't have to drive for Red Bull into 2014 if certain quota wasn't met for 2013.

So if Red Bull are really ****, you bet they'll be sweating into 2015 with that clause if it still in there.

It is not yet clear what caused the Red Bull to stop on track but there was a burning smell coming from the car when it was returned to the pits on the back of a lorry.

Vettel: "Obviously we're not happy with where we are right now but we still have a long way ahead of us. It's difficult to judge where we are. I haven't had much of the car yet. The first gut feeling is OK but we need more to judge the car. It is not that easy to find a quick fix. I think we understand the problems but it's not easy to find a solution. We had a problem with temperature in Jerez which we seemed to fix, at least with the couple of laps we could do. But very often you fix one problem and another one pops up. There is stuff to do on the Red Bull Racing side in terms of temperature and reliability around the car and there is stuff to do on the Renault side, but it's not fair to separate the two. We are a team. We have been very successful in the last years together. This is not the start we were hoping for but we still have some time and clever people on board who hopefully can fix the problems."

I agree, at this rate they wont be able to make 107% in quali.
Surely if they have any sense they will just cut lots of slits in existing bodywork to at least get some laps in. OK so the aero will be bad but at least they could test the engine and help get that sorted. With virtually zero running they are learning nothing.
If they don't get a handle on this during this test then they surely must, as BLS says, go with way too much cooling and make the battery cables too big and work backwards from there.

Renault says it is capable of letting its Formula 1 teams carry out as much running as they want following the first day of testing in Bahrain on Wednesday.

The French manufacturer's teams were in the spotlight for the wrong reasons again when the second pre-season test kicked off, with Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Lotus totalling just 27 laps between them.

    Bahrain day one report

Caterham was the exception as Robin Frijns completed 66 laps, and Renault's head of track operations Remi Taffin (pictured) said that the manufacturer believes its cars will be able to run as much as the teams want to from now on.

"We will try to do some longer runs and to be as much as possible on track," Taffin told reporters in the Bahrain paddock.

"We've got plenty to play with and improve on our power unit control which we will do from tomorrow onwards.

"I think we will go out as much as our teams want to.

"Hopefully if we can have a trouble-free day without any hardware problems that will be fine for us."

Vettel: Red Bull has new problems

Taffin added that the first day of the Bahrain test felt like the start of Renault's pre-season after its difficult week at Jerez in January.

"This is basically our first day of testing," he said. "At Jerez we missed quite a lot.

"We tried to put everything together for this first day, which we achieved, in a way, as our expectation.

"We can clearly say that today we could run our power unit as we wanted.

"Obviously it's still not to the level we want but at least we've got a baseline to work on.

"From tomorrow onwards we will be upgrading things and it will be like this until the end of [the second test] next week. We are happy on that side.

"Obviously we also had some problems, which are inevitable. We are on plan but still recovering."

Renault have a lot of work to do, it's alright saying their testing starts now but at what cost? Most teams will be working on performance very soon, bringing upgrades to the cars and focusing more towards setup work. They're already playing catch up. They surely have to be very worried.
