Is David Meyler becoming an integral part of the team now. We seem to function better in mid-field when he plays, and he adds that bit of bite which breaks up play, as well as having a goal in him?
Agree with all of that but Huddlestone and Livermore are still ahead of him. And he's still an easy target for people who need someone to blame when we lose.
He has been very handy recently and is a lot more willing to do the chasing and closing down than Liv or Thudd. He's still erratic with the ball at his feet and he was ****e against Southampton, no energy and looked fatigued.
Agreed and spot on John. He was unlucky not to get us the winner on monday night @ Brighton when he came on. For me Meyler Livermore and Hudds are the first picks for the midfield 5.
I remember when we first got him on loan. I was somewhat amazed of how big of a difference he made during the games I watched, although he had the annoying habit of falling over easily. He's been a bit more incognito since his transfer became permanent I think, but glad that he's picking it up again
The thing is I can't imagine Bruce will drop Thudd or Livermore so we either play 3 at the back without decent ball playing centre halfs or a proper LWB, or we play four in midfield without Meyler in which Tom and Jake are not playing at all well.
I'd play 4-4-2 with Meyler and Jake in the middle, let Tom have a bit of a rest and hope sitting out a game or two will give him the kick up the arse to get controlling the midfield again.
Meyler. Strong in the tackle when he wants to be, but at times tries to nick it and ends up ****ing it up. The goal he gave away against Cardiff final game of the season. Looked **** at times against Soton cos of how slick they were at passing and moving but works his bollocks off. I like the kid. Team for Cardiff. Mac Elmo Davies Bruce Figgy Meyler Hudd Jake Aluko Lonjela It'll go 4-3-3 at times as Aluko pushes on or goes into the middle to drop behind the two strikers.
It's a funny one with Meyler. There's no doubt he's a useful player and he clearly does a good job when he's in the team. Real good in the air. It's just that sometimes he looks a bit ungainly and seems to be a bit one-paced. Definitely glad to have him in the squad though.
I like him. He has the occasional bad game but they all do. He is not afraid to tackle even though it often results in a yellow card and he can shoot. I also like his attitude. I've said this before but in the end of season game against Cardiff (you know the nailbiting one) he picked up a dead ball just in front of where I sit and made "clenched fist" gesture to the crowd. Sorry I don't know how to describe it but it was like he was saying "Yes we can do this come on". Always seems a nice bloke when interviewed as well.
I hope Rossy might be fit for Saturday, if he is, then I would go for the following Mac Rossy Davies Bruce Figgy Elmo Hudd Jake Meyler Lonjela Aluko to come off the bench for the last 30 minutes.
Our best midfielder at the moment. He is willing to pass the ball forward. All Huddlestone and Livermore do is pass it back !
4-3-3 Meyer and hudds in front of back 4, livermore slightly ahead. Long and aluko as wing forwards, jela leading line. Elmo at rb, rosie at lb (fig is a liability).
I meant as a player who seems to take a lot of criticism but actually does a lot of harrying that doesn't get appreciated.
Most of it sounds like political rhetoric to try to keep the "Non Myler" fans at bay. If harrying the opposition means running alongside until you fall over...........then yes I'll accede that point. He is not starting material imho.
Sorry dem, I ain't singling you out because there are loads of others, but I must bring this up... Surely people must know how to spell Meyler's name by now? I remember the same being done to 'Ashby' by fans on other sites as well as here. Had to get that out there.
Aye, that's 'cos he's ****ing rubbish. He can't pass or tackle properly and does **** all apart from give stupid ****ing fouls away I'm sure he'd do alright in League One. That's if Brucey ever lets his bandit go, of course.
