Been down working on Hurst spit today. It looks like a war zone. The spit's in by far the worst condition since the big storm of 89' (so I'm told, I wasn't quite born yet). The waves at high water on Friday night when the main damage was done were higher than the 89' level, but the damage done back then was greater. The beach huts on the prom at Milford-on-sea next door have been flattened and the cliffs have, in places, retreated almost 5 metres. Might be of interest to anyone that knows the area.

Would Hurst spit be what I called as a kid, Key Haven anyone know? Some good memories of that place.

Keyhaven is set back just behind Hurst spit. There's a small harbour there I believe and Keyhaven saltmarsh lies in the lee of the spit. Hurst spit is the long gravel barrier beach with Hurst Castle sat at it's Eastern end. Not sure if that helps?

It does, many thanks. That is where I spent many a sunday afternoon when I was a lad. We used to park down a little road and go over a little foot bridge (rickety old wooden thing) where it was great for crabbing, and go for a walk towards the castle once we had gone up the shingle hill to the walk way. When I lived up in Wigan I took my wife their on a weekend jaunt and she loved it too. I feel a spring trip coming on back down there now.

I was just having a conversation with two old schoolmates on Twitter, one of whom referenced Matt Lucas.

Who joins the conversation? No other than Matt Lucas. Proper weird!

Ah yes. I know the bridge. It's a nice walk up to Hurst Castle although a tough walk at the moment. Where there was once a nice compacted flat 'walkway' along the crest of the spit, there is currently loose gravel/sand and anything but a flat surface. It will be reconstructed soon enough though so long as the weather starts to behave itself again!

****ing hell, Katie Hopkins.

She's on the immigration debate on Channel 5 and has made the same child name argument, this time on the name 'Muhammad'.

Done that many a time with the missus ... a lovely walk on a nice summers day. Lovely bit of land.

The other week she said most disabled people don't deserve benefits. She said if some one can move their hands they are able to work. She believes most disabled people aren't even disabled.

When I played for Soton Colleges a lifetime ago, we used to train running up and down the dunes at Hengistbury Head.
