Dunno what game you were watching. We were pretty awful second half and they fully deserved the win. Who came out of this positively?...Bartley maybe?
 
It goes to show that some on here are not actually posting their actual opinions post ML sacking, but posting to try and stick to their original viewpoints on the ML sacking. I mean those who are against the sacking are slating Monk's choices, and rightly so after what he put out, but then the pro sacking groupies are sticking up for the choices.

No right minded Swans fan would be happy with today's team choice. Yes rest players, but, not a full team. That was a shocking decision, half v Everton, half v Napoli would have been the better choice. And throwing games is not something that ML ever did. He made changes, yes, but we always put a team out that on paper could win a game.

You only have to look at when people would criticise ML for dropping Bony, yet Monk does this and those same people in the pro sacking brigade are trying to justify the team choice.

Sorry, but your having a laugh if you are trying to justify that team choice, it was poor, and we were never set out to win that game. And that is one thing I cannot forgive. Throwing games is the worst thing anyone can do, and thats what happened today, we basically gave up before we even set foot n the field, and those trying to defend that choice, hang your heads in shame.

Monk in 3 days has done something that ML did once in the whole of his time here at Swansea, which was to field a weakened team, and that was against Liverpool, and ML got **** for those choices. Wonder how many of those who are sticking up for monk, did not have a go at ML for his choices then, may even go try and find it to have a look, see if there are any hypocrites here :)
 
Game was lost before we started, 8 changes? and Alvaro up front? then Lita for Alvaro, rather than Bony tells you all you need to know regarding what the club wanted, but Taylor's shocking back pass buried us, and we didn't bother to get back in, clearly to me we wanted out of this competition, so I'm not that bothered, but it did look at the end of the first half, that we could easily have won this with the right substitutions, clearly the club are not going to risk our premiership status, will we field a strong team for Napoli? If we do we should win, but I wonder?






I'm dissapointed with our cop out today, Monk or jenkins clearly didn't want this competition.

Try once, to remember a game where you thought Laudrup was purposely throwing a game, my mind casts back to Liverpool before the capital one cup final, and thats it, and even then we had a stronger squad than we did today.

League cup against Brum? Or did we have a decent team out? Can't remember.
 
Monk was good and bad for me. His selected team far exceeded my expectations until Taylor's clanger and was doing well. But his decision not to give Bony 20 or 30 minutes was appalling!!! He took away any chance we had of getting a result by his horrendous choice of substitute. The lads had earned the right to give it a go and he didn't allow them the chance of doing so.

Bony would have held the ball up and forced mistakes from their defenders, not to mention he is always likely to score. If he was being saved for Napoli, that's a joke, surely? A cameo period would in no way have tired him for that game and, if it did, a lighter training load would have re-energised him anyway.

Everton weren't good and were there for the taking. Monk either didn't recognise that or deliberately threw in the towel at the critical time. Wonder what Jenkins will make of it? He disagreed with Laudrup about us not being able to compete consistently with bigger teams. Monk didn't even give us that chance in the second half. Lita indeed!!!

However, I'm not here to attack Monk because he has made a decent start and the team is definitely more aggressive, something I've always wanted. But, it was made obvious today that Monk is not a panacea and has a great deal to learn. I wish him all the luck in the world.

It's clear to me that the club is being run , from top to bottom , by rank amateurs now. We will be fine for the rest of the season because of Laudrups assembled team , but next season is already troubling me . Jenkins should be horsewipped !

You clearly said we'd have lost today under ML, even with our first 11...then how on earth did we win at Man Utd under ML? Was that all Curtis, or was Monk secretly involved then.

All this negativity toward ML is frankly a joke. It would appear that there were issues behind the scenes, and not many of us, if any, are really privy to know the details. It's all hearsay. I agree that there appears to be a bit more fire in the belly under Monk, but our style and tactics have not changed drastically yet. We still saw some play through the middle today and not so much of the short sharp passing triangles. It will take time to evolve under Monk, but I'm sure that elements of ML style will remain...unless we really want to be one dimensional again, which is what we were under BR.

Good post Ivor, and my sentiments too, Bony would have been a game changer in this game, Everton were there for the taking! I wonder if Monk had instructions from our board to throw this?................<ok>

Yep it was a strong squad, and in fairness, other than the Liverpool game, I have never once looked at a ML picked squad and thought, we don't have a chance to get anything, yet I found myself saying that today. Yet people are defending those choices, its why I find it weird that its more like defending their choice to stick or twist with ML being sacked. Rather than actual opinions they feel.

Dragon, we may not fully agree on ML sacking, but I agree with your comments here. Opportunity lost and a tricky selection decision for Napoli.

Well don't count me in that, as I am well disappointed with the 8 changes, but even so we did so well in the first half, and if we had brought on Bony with Dyer at half time, we could have won it easily in my view, I thought Everton were nervous and poor! Was this match fixed...............<ok>

Whether this is just part of the learning curve for Monk or he's not up to it and will be replaced for next season is still to be seen. I'm putting this one behind me now and looking forward to Thursday... I just hope we give Napoli everything we've got for the sake of the crowd if nothing else. Hopefully the Liberty will be rocking, a European knock out game is surely something to savour as it doesn't come around very often (understatement!) for a club like ours. I so wish I could be there <cheers>

Im with you Dragon, I was disapointed with the selection, big time, but your right the boys played really well, with how Everton went about the game.

But that doesn't deter from the fact I thought the team choice was piss poor :p We played courtesy of Everton being in a position of thinking they were going to win at a canter rather than us actually playing well. If Everton played how we know they can, we would have got mullered to day IMO.
 
Not sure bringing Bony on would have made any difference. Alvarez and Lita were given zero service second half.
