I get the distinct feeling you've missed the point.

Anyway, Arsenal are in a position where financially we CAN compete with the bigger clubs, due to our new financial deals. The Ozil signing showed we can attract the top talent and for the right player will pay a big fee. It didn't show we will now piss money up the wall, just like the January window doesn't mean we will never spend again. It's far too short sighted to take that view.

It is only over the next few transfers windows that we will see if Wenger is willing to continue spending. To look at the last handful of transfer windows before the Ozil window would be stupidity of the highest order given the financial changes at the club. Now the finances are in place, there is no argument on that - NOW we can see if Wenger will be willing to spend.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer that is for sure. Particularly if any of the calibre of striker we would actually be interested in are available.

I don't think I have missed the point - in addition to Ozil last summer if a striker like Higuain had been signed the chances of winning a trophy would have been much improved.
I hope I'm proved wrong, but I just don't Wenger is willing to spend what's needed.

Of course if along with ozil we had signed an additional world class striker for 40m our chances would be improved... That doesn't mean it was possible to get done. I think the fact we moved for strikers shows wenger is in agreement with all the fans that we need an additional striker. I don't think that in any way proves wenger won't spend money...

Lots of Wenger's moves are pointless bids below asking price that will never succeed just so he can make it look like he 'tried'

Your entitled to your opinion, but thats all it is, there is no fact in what your saying - how could you possibly know the thinking behind the bids he makes?

We were obviously in for a striker in the summer, anyone who says we weren't is two things- 1) wrong, and 2) an idiot for choosing to hold an opinion contrary to the facts. Other than the Suarez bid (a bid which is confirmed we did make and it was clearly done expecting to get the player) their was also the fact we actually had a deal done for Ba which Jose pulled the plug on. So us being in for a striker last summer is FACT.

Why couldn't we sign another striker exactly?..It doesn't take 8 weeks to sign 2 players.

Our lack of signings is 100% down to Wenger. Even the board seem desperate for signings. (the constance re-assurance to fans/press of available funds is a good indication of that)

I can't decide if Wenger knows Giroud/Bendtner are of a lesser quality than the forwards his rival teams have and he just isn't interested in competing anymore OR his judgment is gone.

Either way. He still has some great qualities but its clear he's no longer the TOP manager he once was.

Ok, where to start with this...

Line 1 - there could be a ton of different reasons we didn't get a striker. The most likely being that a striker of the quality we are after wasn't available. January is notoriously difficult for getting the deals you want done. And how the hell would you know how long it takes to get deals done and what goes on behind the scenes?

Line 2 - again your just deciding you know what goes on behind the scenes. We have no idea what the reason is for us not getting signings in.

Line 3 - given that wenger went in for strikers in the summer it would suggest he knows he needs another striker which kind of makes your point nonsense. He is obviously still interested in competing and his judgement is clearly not gone, the flamini and ozil signings plus the faith shown in Ramsey are a few recent examples of wengers judgement still being of top quality.

Line 4 - what a load of bollocks. So wenger didn't sign a striker so now he isn't a top manager anymore, forget his entire career, he hasn't signed a striker so he is done at the top, we may as we'll throw him in a skip...

Honestly some people go so over the top lol, it's almost comical.
 
Should have been done in the summer though. I think a lot of people gave Wenger the benefit of the doubt because of the ozil signing but its looking now like it's going to cost us this season

In the summer we did literally everything people wanted except gets back-up striker. We signed a gk a dm an ozil, got rid of the deadwood, signed our key players to long contracts and didn't lose anyone. It was a great summer. Had the ba deal gone through we would have had ok backup up top. I know he isn't the player we all want but it would have meant when'd giroud is struggling for form we have another option.

So I don't think ozil is the reason people will give wenger the benefit of the doubt. I think they give him the benefit of the doubt because he did everything right except missing out on a striker which e obviously tried to address as well. Also the fact that after the summer we have spent most of the season sitting top probably goes some way to justify people's faith.

We are all in agreement that we need another striker option and to me it's obvious wenger is in agreement as well. It's a shame we haven't managedtoget a deadlines utilized. Haven I doubt in summer we will bring in another striker. As football fans we want everything right now, but sometimes it takes time to build something special!
 
The problem I see, we only have 2 real goal scorers in our squad, one is constantly injured and the other is unlikely to play much part in the rest of the season
 
I'd say giroud, Walcott, Cazorla, Ramsey and podolski are our goal threats soi. Agree about current Injuries being a problem!
 
We've been linked with a move for RVP again in the summer according to the metro. Supposedly Wenger has met with his agent to discuss it and has aired the idea amongst the senior members of our squad to see if he would be welcome back.

Someone pointed out on Twitter that on the day Arsene Wenger was susposed to have met RVP's agent we were playing Southampton away so I doubt very much that any such meeting took place

In most jobs you have more than one thing to do each day :P

But being serious for a moment i agree with you. I highly doubt there is any truth to the story. Just posting it as it popped up on the BBC gossip page :) And because we seem to be repeatedly linked to a move to re-sign him.
 
One thing I've learnt is not to follow any kinds of rumours concerning our transfers. The only one transfer that surprised me was the Ozil one, but that was more down to pure luck than anything else. Everything else is quite predictable concerning us.

As for the striker situation, I think Wenger does want to get another striker but it all comes down to value for money and low financial risk. We pretty much have a settled team and the only players I can see coming in this summer is for a CF and a replacement for a possible outgoing Sagna and Podolski. Everything else you read in the papers is complete and utter nonsense. For example, in the latest, we are being linked to Balotelli and RVP, I mean, where does this crap come from?

So we will see a good quality value striker coming in. Forget the big marquee CFs out there, cause they ain't coming. Ozil was the only one because the freaks that are Real Madrid, made a huge mistake in letting him go and we were lucky to get him, due to it being so late in the window and no one else could get their grubby mitts on him.

The thing is that RVP is nearly at the end of his career, and given that he left Arsenal because he wanted trophies before he bows out you have to assume that he'll want one serious run at the Champion's League before he goes. If Man U don't qualify for it next year, I think it's very possible that we'll see RVP leave.
 
Agreed the media are using Utds failures this season and RVP's injuries to make it seem he is really unhappy and it's an obvious story to say he wants to come back to Arsenal.

I think it's obvious in the summer we will bring in another striker option, whether that is a starter or a rotation option i don't know.

If Sagna goes we will definately sign a defender. He is our first choice RB and seen asa 4th choice CB as well, his departure would mean signing a quality RB and probably a back-up or youth CB. Hopefully he signs a new deal though. If we offer him 2-3 years and we finish the season well i can see him signing a new contract. I think Sagna is one of the players that was positively effected by the Ozil signing. He has been with us for a long time and wants to win things and he had previously made comments about signings. So hopefully there is the opportunity to get him to re-sign.

I wouldn't be suprised to see us sign another midfield player as well given Diaby will likely be off and the loan signing of Mallstrom and supposed interest in Draxler suggest Wenger maybe sees room for another player in the middle.
