I see Elise Christie is getting abuse for being disqualified in the 1500m speed skating.

Short-track speed skating is demented. Getting disqualified is just a matter of trying to squeeze into a place where there wasn't room for you.

You should see the crap being said to her. Bet she feels bad enough already without this crap.

For anyone taking cover in here, have a good evening.. I'll be (thankfully) having dinner at my mates house and so away from the phone :)

Couldn't get on it last night from about half three onwards, database error.

I tried to post on the Mr Manager thread. It was ok until I pressed quick reply, it then said Thanx for posting Beefy but you are unable to do this at this time.(not them exact words)

Been thinking what players I would like Saints to buy. I made 40m my budget.

I went with.

Kaya 12m
Dier 7m
Will Hughes 9m
Aboubakar 5m
Ibai Gomez 6m

That would do me.

I'd like Saints to put in a bid for Mbaye Niang as well.

Like that, DTLW. :)

On another subject, I've just been watching the Women's Speed Skating at Sochi, and I had to check the length of the track [it's 400m] because the women are doing a lap in roughly 30 seconds. That's 800m a minute, of course, which translates into a fraction under 30 mph.

By comparison, Usain Bolt manages roughly 24 mph, but has been measured at 27.79 mph over a 20m burst.

So, ice is very good at preserving energy for immediate use..! :)

Oh, for goodness sake, she was disqualified for her inside skate being a fraction wide of the finishing line. If her left leg had been 2 inches to the right she would have won that.

I would like to point out to the judges that those couple of inches didn't stop the computer from giving her a proper finishing time though - until they disqualified her. I call that a technicality.

Btw, on that women's speed skating event. The speed they are doing is over 1500m and the winning time was 1m 53.51. Which, from my pathetic arithmetic, equates to an average of 29.57 mph from a standing start. Jeez, is that quick. The Dutch girl who won it is normally a short track skater, but she obviously trains over the longer distances, and her outright speed from short track helped her win. She wasn't even that much out of breath, from what I could see.

A clean sweep by the Dutch, by the way. Guess that tradition of skating on their frozen rivers and canals, during the little ice age, lives on.

By comparison, the world record for men's 1500m in athletics is 3m 26.00, held by Hicham El Guerrouj since 1998.

I'd like to see us have a bid for Begovic.
