A geordie centre forward.... how I hope this lad makes the grade.
We've been starved since Shearer retired as Shola (alhough born in Nigeria he was raised A Geordie from 2) just hasn't inspired....

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has confirmed that striking starlet Adam Armstrong is set to commit his future to the club.

Armstrong has only just turned 17 but he has already been involved with the first-team and been on the bench three times.

Pardew admits that the Geordie youngster will be making his Premier League debut in the near future.

"I think he's got a part to play somewhere along the line - he's somebody we have high hopes for," Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

"Hopefully, we'll secure his long-term future here in the next few days."

Early indications show this lad has a lot of promise and a good eye for goal. ( Lets hope our coaching staff don't stifle that promise )
Will he be classed as a new signing?

Fingers crossed but there is a big gap between the shining star of the youth team and a premiership starter. The once great Michael Chopra springs to mind.

I think that's where the parallels with Wayne Rooney are drawn, in that he's more like a new-fashioned CF than old-fashioned.

Whereas Adam Campbell is more "Michael Owen" (let's ignore the post-Real Madrid version....).

At least he doesn't talk like the poison dwarf.

Andy Carroll?

I mention him because he was the bright young thing to replace Shearer... and also that the new deal that's being drawn-up for Armstrong will ensure Ashley gets a good price should/when we sell him.

See what you mean but he never really did it for us over a number of seasons.

I'm thinking a 3-4 season period of consistency.

Maybe at the end of the day we were spoiled with Shearer.

Can't imaging seeing his type again in my lifetime.

All Andy Carroll did was underline that we will definitely never see another Shearer. If Armstrong really was the "next Wayne Rooney", he wouldn't be at the Toon past his 18th birthday.

Of course there will never be another Shearer. Carroll was leading the line for us & England before his injury curse started. People have very short memories.

I believe that if Andy can steer clear of injury, he will be going to the World Cup with England, he's that good. <ok>
