When a gangly 18-year-old Scouser named Jon Flanagan made his Liverpool first-team debut back in 2011, little did the football world know they were witnessing the emergence of âthe Red Cafuâ.
So enterprising have Flanaganâs performances at right-back been this season that some Liverpool fans are now excitedly comparing him to the Brazilian legend â and theyâve even gone to the trouble of letting the two-time World Cup winner know.
And now Cafu â one of the original all-action modern full-backs â has hinted heâll tune in to Liverpoolâs Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday to see what all the fuss is about for himself.

The revelation came to light during a Twitter exchange last night, when a cheeky-chappy Celtic fan sarcastically suggested to Cafu that former Rangers defender Alan Hutton was his footballing equal.

.@paulhamill88 I have fan tweets who say RedCafu is Flanagan at Liverpool. I must watch more Premier league to see both !
So. Based on playing style and potential, can Flanagan be the red Cafu?
