Not for one second do I believe Cisse is finished or lost his ability.

Strikers are all about confidence and goal-scoring rhythm. If Cisse was the main man and given the game time he would score goals again, no doubt.

You don't prove it and then lose it overnight – BUT whether he needs a move and fresh impetus to kickstart his career is another thing.
It'll be clear to the player that he is not thought of as top choice now and he's struggling to get the pitch time he needs.

It's all about his motivation to turn things around at Newcastle, with his nose doubtlessly still out of joint about the Wonga shirt nonsense...

Exactly. If it wasn't for Cisse we would have gone down last season. You don't score the goals he has done without having incredible talent. Cisse was never the same player after Pardew went out his way to placate Ba and play him upfront. The selfish little primadonna then f**ked off a few months after. It was terrible man management by Pardew, it really was.

You've just got to watch Cisse during matches. He makes the runs and doesn't get the early ball to feet. The passes are either late - in which case he's caught offside - or they're long high balls. Cisse is NOT a target man. You just have to watch his body language. He is fed up. Play the right pass to Cisse, when he wants it and he'll score more than he'll miss.

De Jong handed number 18 at #nufc

If Grenier doesn't sign tomorrow then we won't get him. I've never know us sign anyone on deadline day.

Hoping to God that we sign the lad though. I'd be happy with our dealings this window then. Cabaye was always going to go, so to get good money and actually use it I don't think anyone could have complaints.

all done and dusted <cheers>

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Dutch international striker Luuk de Jong.

The 23-year-old arrives at St. James' Park from Borussia Monchengladbach on loan to the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.

De Jong will wear the Magpies' number 18 shirt and is eligible to make his debut in Saturday's Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

Going to be a great introduction for him, couldn't be more memorable than that.

If you recall Xisco and Gonzalez were signed on deadline day, but, they don't really count as footballers.

From SSN: Newcastle's director of football Joe Kinnear added:
"We are delighted to bring Luuk de Jong to the club. He has an excellent pedigree and will add significantly to our striking options. We have been watching him for a little while now and I am sure he will prove to be a valuable acquisition for us. He's a great character and a proven goalscorer, who I know is very keen to replicate the prolific form he showed for FC Twente in the Eredivisie."

"delighted", "excellent pedigree", "significantly", "valuable acquisition", "character", "replicate the prolific form" - JOE KINNEAR?
Bloody amazing how clever that Google Translate is.

How can we have been looking at him for a while when he's only played 83 mins pitch time this season. ????? What was there to see.

I think he's referring to when he was at Twente, before he went to Germany.
He had a good rep with them and we were allegedly one of the clubs interested in him.

This is Joe you're talking about. Perhaps he either:
a) Watched all of those full matches to find the 5 minutes LdJ actually played in, or
b) Has been watching Nigel de Jong instead (and still thinks he has the ability to be a centre forward)
c) Meant to say he'd spent a while looking for LdJ (not at him)
d) He doesn't know how to use YouTube
