Morning Peeps, A lapse of concentration from veteran keeper Paddy Kenny saw Leeds drop two vital points against the Tractor boys last night. Leeds dominated for large periods of the game but went a goal down just before the hour mark when McGoldrick’s long range speculative shot managed to squirm under Paddy Kennys ample body. Don't know your thoughts, but I feel sorry for the ball!!! please log in to view this image I'm not going to dwell too much, but that is the second gaff in as many matches that a glaring mistake from our keeper has cost us points.... Leeds got back in the match a few minutes later when Stewart was bought down in the box, and the ref pointed at the spot. McCormack made no mistake, hammering the ball home from 12 yards. Largely it was an uninspiring performance by both sets of players, but particularly disappointing performances again from Leeds new wingers Kebe and Stewart. Have they not settled in yet? Do they think they're too good for the Championship? Are the off the field antics getting to the players? Did Ross seem to have a bit more confidence last night? We want to hear your thoughts....... Cellino was in the stands last night, and was clearly captured by our undercover Not606 roving reporter, known only as Mr W... please log in to view this image If you turn your head, and squint, you can kinda make him out You may recall that Andy Flowers, part of the Haigh consortium is none too happy that GFH Capital are talking to Cellino and other parties. (I'm sure somebody from here will post the links). It has been reported on the website Tuttomercatoweb that it is 'certain' Leeds will be loaned playmaker Andrea Tabanelli, to assist McCormack up front. I wonder where that rumour comes from??? An author of a new book about the Hillsborough disaster is hoping to speak to Leeds fans... Mike Nicholson is hoping to speak to Leeds supporters who were stood on the terraces behind the goal at the Leppings Lane end of Sheffield Wednesday’s home ground in April 1987. The 41-year-old from London hopes we can shed light on what it was like for supporters in the central pens of the stand two years before the country’s biggest sporting disaster took place. If you were there, and want to share your experience, please contact Mike on his email [email protected]
Kenny is a liability and I think this has been one season too far for him as number one. My thoughts on Kebe and Stewart. Both showed glimpses of what they can do, but also plenty of evidence why they get slated on here. I could not fault Kebe's work rate and he got himself into some very good positions, his final ball was very poor though. I offered this opinion on my way out of ER last night. Both are wingers brought in to give us some width and deliver balls into the box. Then for various circumstances we are left with only McCormack, Diouf and Poleon as forward options, none of whom are the tallest. Both players when they did get into a good position where they would just normally whip a ball in had to stop and think about what they were going to do and try and find the perfect pass to someones feet or a high ball which was gathered by Ipswichs taller defence. This made Kebe and Stewart look very poor last night, sometimes unfairly. I have said I will reserve judgement just yet until Smith is back and they have someone to aim at. I hate to say it but I truly believe if even Varney had been playing we could have created a lot more chances. (Its not about how hard we can hit, its how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. Thats how winning is done.)
Kebe sounded dreadfull. And there was me telling anyone who would listen what a signing he was. Not the same player that left reading. Anyone else ready for the dog fight we are going to get dragged into? Need to pick up maximum points at home going forward now. I may sound rash but we have been ****e for a long time regardless of formation and personale.
massively, would prefer Warnock to be penno taker imo also lets face it if Tom Lees wasn't a Leeds lad he would have been kicked out a long time ago, continually bullied the soft twat
It was an excellent penalty though. I was pleased with the fact that Leeds looked their best when we had four academy players on the pitch in Byram, Lees, Mowatt and Poleon. I would definitely start Mowatt alongside Rudy on Saturday. I understand why Brown was brought in but now that Austin looks better I think we look better with a little more creativity from young Mowatt. (Its not about how hard we can hit, its about how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. Thats how winning is done.)
Cant believe im saying this but a centre of Mowatt/Brown would suit us. Mowatt getting into space and feeding the wingers and Brown running around like a headless chicken taking no mercy.
Never thought Lees was good enough at RB or CB. He's brave but hoofs it and always has a mistake in him. I'd gladly get shot of him and watch him become the next big thing (its always the way with our ex-defenders!)
Brown Mowatt/Austin Mowatt. Either would work, just dont think we need two hard tackling centre mids. It did the job of settling us down after the Wednesday game but I do believe we need at least one creative/flair player in there. I may be a minority here but I think both Pearce and Lees had a good game yesterday with some good last ditch tackles and brave defending. (Its not about how hard we can hit, its how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. Thats how winning is done.)
I had hoped you were right about Kebe, but I'd never trust someone who said he'd sign up permanently if the club was promoted, very good of him.
Morning all ... some good points being discussed, here goes: Kenny - now starting to hurt us, we will definitely be looking at a keeper in the summer Wingers - as hemase quite rightly pointed out, the wingers had no target to cross to when they made some space, the speed is there and they can play, but doesn't help when they have to cut inside to look for a short pass or knock it backwards to keep possession ... Smith will come back in and hopefully we'll see more results from out wide ... it also seems clear that Brown/Austin as a unit can only destroy but not create, and this affects our ability to keep our wingers in the game Kebe - shaks I hear you, but it was Leeds who put in the clause that he only gets a permanent deal if we go up ... we are saying we can't afford to keep him full time in the Championship (will only be paying a percentage of his £25k a week salary), and also it gives him a good incentive to help us get up ... this lad is being treated very unfairly, he is not the cause of our problems, and I for one am pleased he took up the challenge to help us, he's either brave or very stupid for doing that Midfield - need a creative player in there ... Mowatt has felt the pace, and his confidence is a bit down, could be he is not fully fit yet ... Brown and Austin together not the answer, only one can play ... Murphy will get there, but right now he needs a confident team around him as he learns to cope with the pressure of playing for Leeds Lees - another youngster who looks good in a confident team, he can make mistakes but he will improve, the question is will it be at Leeds? I am okay for him to stay another season, maybe he needs a loan spell at a high flying lower division club ... MZ is clearly struggling with injury, Wootton hopefully ready to play a full 90 minutes Pearce - boy has this lad stepped up when the chips are down ... one of the bright lights among the chaos, I admire him for his courage and determination, and he is fast becoming our fearless leader ... keep going son, we need you Academy - who is next? Mowatt looked good last night when he came on so hopefully that will do his confidence some good. Agree with comments about Murphy and Wooton, they will grow in to very good players with time I think. I liked the look of Dawson when he had a start in the first team last year. Watching the Scunthorpe Fleetwood game the other night and Charlie Taylor looked very good. Hopefully he will come back from that loan ready to break into the first team squad.
