i thought that at the season start and last year... nobody wanted to liten to it last year. however right now i'm questioning if he could even deliver 60 intense minutes of closing down
I agree that Gerrard should compete with Hendo or one of the forwards. Not with Coutinho IMO, as the ACM role is the most crowded one and he'll be stripped off the ball frequently for not being the quickest. Forward on one of the flanks he could find space to shoot, cross, use his vision. I'd still employ Sterling ahead of Gerrard esp when facing high-line defences, but Stevie could do better against teams that sit deep. Anyway, to afford the luxury of using Gerrard in an advanced role, we need that DM - you wouldn't trust your CM to Hendo and Allen alone, would you... Sign that holding f***ing holding midfielder
So, no developments and we're still ****ed for midfield options. That just about sums the day up so far, right?
it was good enough for litmanen... i feel we are loking at a legend we don't want it to happen too but in the end when carra was on the bench we all got on with it. its omething that just needs to happen once then its done and normal... question is when will brendan rodgers have the players to and belief that he doesn't need to put gerrards name down first every game just like suarez
With 72 hours to go and then no doubt the post mortem to follow, I think we've got a good 50 pages left in us!
When Gerrard was injured and Allen, Lucas and Hendo started we conceded 5 in 5 including games against Chelsea and Man City. Having Allen in the middle instead of Gerrard gave us more mobility and a little more control. We were still creative enough and scored 9 goals (5 against Spurs). When Gerrard returned we shipped 5 in 2 games against Stoke and at home to Villa. That said Gerrard's return also coincided with injuries to Sahko (who's influence has been understated) and then Agger. If we brought in a more athletic ball winning midfielder I think it could really help Gerrard. I'm not sure the midfield works that well with both Lucas and Gerrard as they struggle to keep up at times.
There are rumours that Napoli might be back in for Capoue, if that's the case they're going to have an overcrowded midfield... Possibly freeing up the ultra unlikely swap deal between Agger and Inler? What's the opinion on that in the unlikely event of it happening? Personally I'd be okay with it. I like Agger but with a younger model in Sahko and cover in Toure I'd take it just to get a dependable ball winner like Inler in the middle.
I like Agger too and he's been an excellent servant to the club. But for me I would definitely consider a deal, Agger is far too injury prone to rely on, and like you say we have Sakho coming back soon. Doubt it will happen and if it did I would be sad to see him leave - but needs must at the moment.
I'd consider swapping Agger but then, I've been saying for a while that I'd sell him anyway. Far too injury prone and when he is fit he massively lacks concentration. I'd want a bit of money plus Inler though.
agger is 29. either you sell now and get cahs... which napoli won't want to do or you do not sell him ever.
I see that this board agrees that we should go for Inler. Even if it is at the expense of a loyal servant like Agger.
We have Sakho, Skrtel, Kolo, Illori and Wisodm next season for center back options. I would sell Agger if it means brining in a midfielder.
Poor Agger! I like Agger! Great player and gives his all... ... when he's not injured. We probably do need a Defensive Mid more though...still, would be sad to see Agger go if he does.
I agree... but it's like putting Lassie down and getting a new dog because Lassie has Alzheimer's and can't rescue the kids from the well anymore.
