He was playing for Rennes in France who finished between 9th and 6th for those seasons mentioned. So not too dissimilar to Liverpool in that time frame. Certainly not a possession advantage. If anything it would be the opposite.
I'm the only one against I think. And I'd rather we brought him in than nobody at DM. I just think we could buy someone better for similar money and with less baggage.
Probably not. Think we could bring in Nigel De Jong for half the price we'd need for M'Vila. Would be a quick fix but I think he'd bring more to the team in the short term.
One of my pet hates is the growing use of stats in football as a prime driver for decision making and performance analysis. Numbers are just so limited. For goodness sake why can't people use their eyes. Football is a game in real time with a myriad of variables. It is NOT a computer game wherein all of the variables are reduced to a series of numbers. End of rant.
I agree with you to some extent. I don't love the increase in stats being used to definitively say who is better and I'd be alarmed if we based signings on stats alone (Damien Comolli?). But I think they definitely aid in assessing a player's qualities. More often than not when you come away from a match thinking a certain player had a good game his stats reflect that. As I mentioned in a previous post, the stats I listed for both Lucas and M'Vila are quite a fair reflection on them as players and their performances for that season.
I agree that stats will HELP to support your analysis of how a player has performed. However, it gives no indication of a players psychology. It gives no indication that a star player might just be that because the team itself has been built around his particular skills
The M'Vila flying to Liverpool rumour. I was just being a journalist for the day - nothing more, nothing less
Liverpool could turn to Spartak Moscow's Brazilian midfielder Romulo, 23, who has also been scouted by Arsenal and Chelsea, after learning that Lucas Leiva could miss up to two months with a knee injury.
Someone posted this yesterday and I think a few objected because of only playing seven games in two years Good name though
I heard on the back end of a news report on talkshite that BR was on there and "hadn't given up hope on signing Salah" Anyone hear the actual interview?
If you've got a rough idea of when it was then you might be able to listen to it again on their website? Not even sure if they do that on there but worth a shot.
