January Transfer Rumours Thread

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Super G Ted'inho, Sep 3, 2013.

  1. Depends what you read or believe. I've said since the summer that after trying for Henry Ryan, Willian and Bernard etc, we decided to spend on Sakho and Ilori instead. I believe those latter moves were intended but the club was hoping to fund them by selling Skrtel and Coates. Maybe we don't have much to spend as a result? I sincerely doubt we had £35m-£40m knocking about to buy someone like Mata!

It wasn't the source but it popped up in Google so I linked to it. I can't link to the video of the game showing RVP looking at Moyes and seething over being played longer than they had already agreed just because Man Utd are **** and needed him.

But surely we'd have £25m ish, maybe less to spend on say Salah/Tello and a DM (M'vila maybe)

Either way a DM is most important, but if we can strengthen elsewhere then great

  8. Well, that's what I was getting at. Someone commented on here earlier suggesting that the money used to spend buy Sakho and Ilori was the January budget and Brod knew this. If that is the case then we wouldn't have money now would we?

think that was billy on another thread, he said his mate had a theory or something.

i posted something similar the other day as well saying any buys we make now and don't make cl football could come out the summer budget, so who knows.

  10. If it comes out the summer budget then so be it. As others have said already, we knew we'll have money in the summer one way or the other (CL or Suarez sale) so why not? Any imcoming player may be able to help us now but if not, they get six months to settle so they can have a good crack at next season when the incoming players should have arrived anyway. Might be able to convinced better players to join ATM too with the prospect of CL football on the table.

Personally, I think we're working round the clock on deals. I'm sure the Committee have identified a lot of players before the window opened, and I'm sure Ayre and the team have been busy.

We must remember that it's not us who are delaying the proceedings - it's the selling clubs as they obviously want to maximise the value. Should we simply give up on a player because we can't force a signature within a week? ...

However, and this is one criticism - we need to find a balance of ensuring we buy players at good value and the time it takes to complete.

As we saw with Mkhitaryan and now potentially Salah, we have been scouting these players for a while, negotiating for a long time, do all the ground work only for another team to just swoop in at the last second.

We can't afford to let deals drag on for too long, but at the same time we can't just pay whatever the selling club want. #Balance

  12. I think that highlights a need for keeping things in-house. However, for all we know, things may have been kept in-house and the media are the ones drumming up the Salah talk.

As I keep saying, I'll wait for the Liverpool announcements (and leaning pics) <ok>

PS...I have no idea what we're up to, just throwing things out there.

True - the club have done a great job in keeping things private during this window.

For goodness sake! Will you lot stop blathering on about budgets when you obviously have little idea about them. A budget is merely a control mechanism set in the light of circumstances that currently exist and/or that we feel will exist within the life of the budget. Their purpose is to aid our achievement of our corporate objectives.

However, if circumstances change and the is a good enough argument forwarded by operational management thn the executive (FSG/JH) can authorise any spending that is required within the extended bounds that they decree.

So if Mata costs £40 million and BR said he was vital then FSG could approve it. Even if BR had spent the planned January budget it is not the end of the story. But the loss of Lucas might be!

  16. If we have posters questioning why we haven't bought players then surely you look at that question? No one is claiming to be in the kow, I've clearly said as much too, but it is feasible that we lack funds and that is why. Of course, we could have £200m sat their and we just don't feel we've found the right player but I doubt it.

Honestly... I think the mata deal may tip balance of favour for 4th in Uniteds direction.

We need someone to improve on 1st team position in DM or Fullback to get the balance back in our favour.

Salah adds depth... but he is probably comparable to Coutinho or Raheem (if we're lucky)... so its like for like... maybe allowing cooties to go center... but that would mean we're leaving part of sas out... or really attack focused.

United probably favourites for 4th now... hopefully I'm underestimating Moyes ability to screw up.
