Is it me or are we forever on the wrong end of refereeing decisions, look at the 2 with Bony yesterday:-

1st one was the massive tornado that came through the south east corner of the stadium yesterday and blew him completely off course and away from the ball, the second when he attacked the spurs player with a flying head butt.

is this really just unlucky, is it incompetence from the referee & linesman or is it just simply a vendetta against our club as a whole.

dont get me wrong i am not using these as an excuse for the loss yesterday but come on if we had taken the lead with that penalty then i think there could of been a different outcome in that match.

does anyone else feel the same or do i need to start growing the old magie mushrooms again <confused>
 
I think most fans say the same about their club. There is no vendetta. Why would there be? Do you really think referees and dream up vendettas?
 
We were never going to beat spurs in a month of Sundays..Sherwood had the measure of laudrup from the off just like most of the other managers had in previous games. he is so predictable and a one trick pony that will win one game in a blue moon...
 
I wouldn't be paranoid enough to say there was any vendetta. Referees make mistakes and always will, as they have to make decisions in real time, fair enough. What bothers me is that the ref's standing close to the incident with a good view - and surely in that case it's just incompetence. I'd love to hear his explanation.

The standard of refereeing is shocking.

V Liverpool we should have had several pens for their defenders fouling at corners. If it had been the other way around im sure theyd have got the decision. West Ham the same.

That foul on Bony was clear the ref must have seen it again not given.

They should be made to explain why they are incapable of pointing to the spot for obvious pens.

Think they are afraid to make the wrong decision against a bigger club.

Its not a level playing field and I dont know how these refs are allowed to just carry on.

Both our clubs are up against it anyway particularly us who rely heavily on set pieces but when you have garbage refs who bottle it what can you do?
 
We've grown to accept them now by the looks of it ,with no comment after the game which was disappointing ,whether it was the wrong/correct decision at least it may bring it to the attention of the assessors .Too many times this season we've seen inept officiating and before you butt in Dai ,it could make a difference in the future .
 
If the push on Bony was anywhere else on the pitch then Atkinson would have given a free kick, so why didn't he give a pen. Consistency pisses me off, I don't believe in the theory that decisions even out over a season. Were a small club and I believe all small clubs have decisions go against them, look at how many good penalty appeals we have go against us (Stoke), same thing happens to our opponents and nothing. Chelsea given a penalty against WBA, that was never a pen.

I'm resigned to the fact that us or any of the smaller clubs won't get a 50/50 decision against a big club.
 
You have to accept that Refs/Linesmen can make mistakes when for example its a close offside but it is difficult to take when he has a clear view of a push. As Never says if it was outside the box I am sure we would have got a free kick - when its in the box the decisions do seem to favour the top 6.

Not sure what Sherwood and Laudrup have to do with the decision unless of course Wilf was blown over by Laudrup's vigorous arm waving ;)
 
refs are far better today and far better trained than they were due to the changes made in football over the years. everyone moans when a decision goes against them but will accept when it goes for them, The ref's job is a very demanding job and they cant get every decision spot on as that is impossible, Nobody gets preference on decisions as all are vetted and the rule is you play to the ref's whistle...without them there would be no football...
 
twatkinson's a terrible ref and has a record of favouring the "bigger" side more often than not and that's how the performance came across on Sunday. Not so much the penalty but we certainly seemed to be getting the rub of the green in the general decisions. It's not often I say that either.

I can understand why you think it should've been a penalty but there are so many of these kind of incidents that go unpunished it would've been a bit of a shock and unfair had we been punished for it(plenty of sides have done it to us this season). Personally I like the idea that defenders are allowed to be physical when defending in the penalty area as it's a trait of British football but it is a sort of weird contrast we have now where a striker can go down and win a penalty off the slightest brush in open play yet far more contact goes unpunished at set pieces. I'd rather refs stopped pandering to players that grossly exaggerate contact rather than going down the route of punishing defenders more harshly.

Have we ever had a meaningful penalty in the prem, one that actually affected the result. I know we had a penalty earlier this year against Sunderland I think, but we were 2 or 3 up with 10 mins to go. You'd have to go back at least 2 seasons.

I seem to remember you guys were down the bottom for penalties with us last season too, we went about 18 months without one(I think). Even this season they've been turning down our more clearcut penalty appeals and the ones we have got have tended to be harsh. Our game against you guys earlier in the season summed it up when we had a pretty clear penalty turned down earlier on only to get given a very soft pen later on. Still, compared to other ever present clubs we've received quite a lot less penalties, maybe it's wearing white that's the problem :(
 
We've had one penalty in two years, and that was meaningless. Truth is refs don't need to give small clubs like us penalties - they know there will be no backlash.

Truly laughable. Plenty of small clubs like us (and much smaller ones) get penalties every week.

Do you honestly think refs don't favour the big clubs?

There's no big conspiracy it is simple common sense. If a ref awarded a penalty against Fergie's Man utd (or any other big club) that turned out to be incorrect there's a chance he'd never ref a big game again. If he did the same to a small club who cares? there would be no backlash. That thought is constantly on refs' minds.

The Spurs fan above mentioned our game earlier this year when the ref awarded them a terrible penalty simply because he found out at half time he should have awarded them one in the first half. Backlash avoided.

Like laughing on your own do you? Managers outside the "Big Four" have been complaining about the preferential treatment those clubs receive for years. It is so common an occurrence that even the MOTD pundits just shrug their shoulders nowadays saying it seems to be part of the game.

Of course smaller clubs get penalties but usually against similar sides, rarely against the big boys. In case it escaped your notice, even Tim Sherwood agreed that it was a penalty!!!!! There was no score at the time and the decision could have been game changing, a fact I'm absolutely certain in my own mind, Atkinson was fully aware of.
 
Not sure if you saw Monday view on Sky but ex Ref Dermot Gallacher could only explian it away that his [Atkinson] view had been blocked by Flores.

Yet Sherwood saw it from 50 yards further away!

Big decision in my mind made for one reason.
