please stop, i keep seeing new posts and clicking the link to see the intelligent debate and i just keep getting this and its making me sad. Look ->
Cini, stop being a fool. Spurs fans don't go onto your board to wum, if they do they'd get deleted or berated just the same as here. Sure you'll get some baiting and read stuff you don't like from time to time but it's the same for fans on any rival's board, don't like it or don't think you can control yourself then don't come here. Edit: Can't be bothered to look through seeing if anything needs to be deleted so this is me drawing a line under it, back to rival watch chat. _________________________________________ <- line drawn
I'm RESPONDING to a wum. anyway, yes this is boring. It is far more enjoyable to actually debate nicely with you. What do you all serially think of Eriksen? Will he ever reach his potential in a 4-4-2 under Sherwood?
Rather reminiscent of Modric out on the left during Redknapp's early games at Spurs, but in terms of positives and negatives. Looks more of a goal threat and less of a creative force than the Croatian though, at the moment. Probably not his best position in the long term. Was useless in the first half against Palace last week, but then sprang to life when he was told to play slightly wider, rather counter-intuitively.
He seems to me to be someone like Podolski and Wilshere... he looks like he could be very good but he doesn't really seem to have a position that he can really be brilliant at currently. Lamela, Eriksen and Lennon is the sort of attacking midfield 3 that would run riot in most leagues including la liga. But they just seem like 4-2-3-1 players playing for a 4-4-2 premier league team.
Both teams probably have too many players whose preferred position is either alongside or behind a main striker. We seem to have gone dramatically overboard in that area, with Eriksen, Soldado, Defoe, Lamela, Chadli, Holtby, Sigurdsson and a variety of youth players all aiming for the same spot.
We overloaded with attacking midfielders in the last 18 months - Sigurdsson, Holtby, Chadli, Lamela, Eriksen (Dembele and Paulinho can be added to the list too) could barely all fit into a 4231, and they certainly can't fit into a 442.
Add Townsend and Lennon. Thats it, what I've been trying to say all along is, it throws up too many options, how many matches would you need to try all combo's? its ridiculous, and in doing that where's the continuity? It is a headache and the only answer is to trim it down. The difficulty is you can argue a case for every player to stay and fit in somewhere, but that just can't happen. It is also frustrating to know that players will move on and be a better success, its more than likely, but thats football. I think the question is more why did we buy 1 or 2 rather than why are we selling.
Relegation-bound Fulham managing to hold Arsenal to 0-0, up to half-time. The Gunners had better put a shift in during the second half, because these are the only 3 points they are likely to see for some while.
And that's without taking into account the non-attacking midfielders like Sandro, Parker, Huddlestone, Livermore and Carroll. We obviously needed Dembele and Sigurdsson last season as Modric, VDV and Kranjcar were all leaving, yet for this season we did suddenly become an overexcited newbie at Football Manager. For example, on the wings we had Lennon and Sigurdsson established and Townsend was penciled in for a full season, so was Chadli a required signing? I recall a few rumours of Siggy leaving last summer, but that didn't come to pass - so we spent £7m replacing a player who didn't leave. And even if Siggy did leave, surely we should've signed Lamela and just Lamela? That way we'd have Lennon, Lamela and Townsend as options on the flanks, which would have probably been enough for both 4231 and 442.
All good points mate, but I could see a case a 4th wide player based on the rough premise of 2 per position within the squad, 2 left 2 right. With 3 you're one injury away from having to use the same two. This is where a balanced squad, with some attacking players comfortable and effective in more than one role comes into it, not sure you'd describe ours like that atm.
