Sorry if this has been mentioned but I saw lots of references to a caller called Sally on Burnie's RH show this morning. (about 2:15 in I listened on Iplayer and was very moved by all that she said re the name change. She spoke with such sincerity, dignity and pride. Mr Allam is not fit to lick her boots. Seriously have a listen.

Just copied the link off Twitter

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01nr1mc/David_Burns_16_01_2014/

From a No To Hull Tigers perspective, the stand-out was a very moving contribution from a listener called Sally, which really brought home why the name of the club matters. We urge you to listen to her call – you can find it at 2.15.12 in.

Some things are more important then money says the lady who cried when she heard Assem Allam say City fans could die when they want. Have a listen and you'll understand why.

Just been on the newsnow site and saw a CTWD link to the Burnsey show of yesterday. Worth listening to at the spots mentioned in the newsnow article. The contribution from Sally was a real tear jerker.

I know all this and similar has been said before, but I just don't get Allam's pig headedness on this and keep thinking there will be a last minute compromise. If his strong feelings about the Tiger (and by the way, although I oppose the name change, I like the Tiger reference too, hence my forum user name), is really about marketing and not a childish tantrum about "City" for reasons we all know, why can't he (as much as some might turn their noses up a bit), have a shirt redesign with a Tiger moniker or picture emblazoned across the front or back.

That's just one idea but the point is that there are probably any number of ways he could meet his stated goals (if they're genuine) AND end this nonsense, AND recover his reputation - I'm sure no-one actually wants to hate him.

I think that was very poignant and touching.

My mother has a postcard from 1908 mentioning "Hull City's win over Woolwich Arsenal" (I looked it up, it was an FA Cup game) written by my great grandfather to my great great uncle (he was a City supporter who went to the original ground that Sally mentioned).. There's also a letter written by my great uncle from Canada asking about Hull City's results when he went away in the 1930s.. My great uncle died of a heart attack during a game in 1959 at BP.. My dad first went to BP in 1949, he took me in 1989, I took my nephew in 2010..

Throughout our family history there has been Hull City.

    Throughout many others too

Sally's call was heartfelt and genuine. She sees the name change as disrespecting her husbands memory, which I'm not going to criticise.

And to be fair, she would not mind CTWD using her to promote their cause.

It doesn't however change my opinion on the name change, and flicking around that broadcast I found myself nodding with the callers who say this only matters to a minority of supporters. Clearly it matters a hell of a lot to those supporters but still it is a minority.

Because that 'minority' are the ones who kept on supporting this club when were utter **** in the late 90s when we were always in the bottom 4 in Lg 2. Al the others voted with their feet and made their excuses.

Where were all these local magnates back then??????

The 18 000 newbies who now make up the majority need to understand that.

    BIG TIME.

Pity there's no longer a Woolwich Arsenal so I guess that game doesn't count.

We don't know if its a minority because Assem Allam bottled the vote arranged by the OSC for the Chelsea match. Just as I don't know if its a majority you and the callers don't know if its a minority. You think its a minority so you agree with people who have the same view as you.

Are you suggesting that all of us back then support ctwd? How do you come to your conclusion?
PS my dad is in his nineties and can get very upset about things he took in his stride when younger.
He has been a city fan for a very long time and is delighted with what AA has achieved.
I feel sorry for Sally and I feel sorry for my dad when he is upset

I'm sure many people were delighted with what Russell Bartlett achieved for us until the bill arrived and we almost went out of existence. Yesterday we set the going rate for new Hull City players at £50,000 per week. I suspect it will be the going rate for our existing players when their contracts come to an end. An important question is can he afford to keep on putting that amount of money into Hull City Tigers Limited year after year. If he can't do you seriously expect the Asian market to give us an extra £20 to £40 million a year?

As Russell Bartlett found out, the piper eventually comes a calling for payment.

The main reason for my post was to point out that the upsetment felt by Sally may well be mirrored on the other side of the argument.
The rest of your hypothesis is an opinion. You may be proved to be wrong or right in the long term.I think the new signings wll improve our chances of staying up and gaining from the tv cash. Not investing would weaken us and risk the financial PL benefits.
I think well meaning ctwd members are now believing that because opinions are oft repeated they become virtual facts.\this could be adding the angst being felt by those believing they are being told facts

You think someone might ring RH in tears, because Hull City didn't become Hull Tigers? <yikes>

There's no doubt that the new signings will improve our chances of staying up and staying up will improve our chances of being able to pay the bills ongoing, but we're still taking a hell of a punt paying up to £14m for two players on massive contracts, who'll be a massive liability if we do go down in the next couple of seasons.

Who will cry (with sadness) if Allam announces the namechange is not happening? Nobody. That's all you need to know.
